Sold item for local pick-up and buyer is not messaging back but paid

I sold a item about 3 weeks ago, close to a month. Buyer asked if he could do local pick-up and i said yes and sent him a invoice for the local pick-up. He a few days later paid and was in contact for those few days. After he paid i asked what works best for him and when i was available. He took a week to respond and said they would let me know in a couple days when he will be in town. Now its been close to a month since sale and been two weeks since he last messaged me, i have messaged him twice now saying its been a good amount of time since auction ended and was wondering if you have a idea when you can come and no reply. He paid and i am not in a rush but he is not contacting me anymore. Has anyone ever had a person never show up for local pick-up and how did they end up handling it. I was going to wait till it hits a solid month before i mention to eBay, but curious how this all works. I have done local pick-up before and they always come fast and have a couple people that do local pick-up on the regular. Any advice be great!!

You should find that you have his phone number in the Order Details for the sale, so I would try phoning him and see how that goes.

     A lot of things could have happened. Check the obits in the buyers home town about 8,000 people die every day in the US. Many more have major health issues that leave them temporarily or permanently incapacitated.

     Over the years I have had both from non-payment cases.

I would cancel before 30 days are up, I don't believe you can cancel and refund after that point.  After 3 weeks if they haven't responded, it's not worth worrying about, I'd say.  You can use "Problem with Buyer's Address" to cancel, it's not 100% accurate but it's the closest to the proper reason we get to choose.

The last thing you want to do is get eBay involved. It will never end well for you. They will open a case against you, then close it in favor of the buyer and you will get a defect and lose your FVF.  If you don't want to wait on the buyer just issue them a refund yourself.

And yes, I once had someone pay $500-$700 for an item and then I never heard from them again. They bought/paid and never contacted me at all. I sent them several emails to coordinate a pick up and they never responded. That was back in the early 2000's. I can only guess that they passed away immediately after paying.

Tell us what the buyers profile / location / feedback history looks like without their I.D.

 

That can possibly answer your questions / issues.

Yeah that was the 1st thing i looked at when he asked for local pickup and have been peeking at it to see if been buying, has thousands of feedback buys and even has about 30 recent feedback after i left him feedback, he seems to still be buying, i have it set to leave feedback automatically when they pay. The way the guy was communicating was like he was in no rush for it. Last message he was like i will let you know when i have time to pick it up. Also it took him a week to pay but was in contact the entire time. I am going to let it ride see what happens i was curious if others have dealt with this but some of the advice like cancel and risk of a case. IDK. I dont think there is any risk on my side as i have been in contact with him and its his responsibility to pick it up.  he  said what town he is in and only like a few towns over but still like a 40 min ride i would assume. he picked buy it now so i cant see he address, just says US and been member since 05.  Will update when/if i hear from him. Thanks!!
