Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

So I currently had a very high priced Connor McDavid hockey card up for sale. It was for $850 Buy It Now or Best Offer. The key word is best offer. This is ebay, I've never sold an item with a buy it now option for the full price on cheap cards, let alone something big as this one. This is where people come to find a deal and negotiate.

A buyer with 0 feedback just bought the item, without even sending an offer. I find that very very strange. He paid immediately but I am very sketchy as whether to just cancel the transaction and be safe or take the risk and send him the card. His very first purchase happens to be an $850 hockey card the he pays for straight up without trying to save money and send offers.

The money he sent me is in pending for 3 weeks as per paypal policy, and will only be released once the tracking is complete AND he leaves positive feedback (or no feedback until the 3 weeks is up).

I am VERY worried that he will just put a claim in paypal, and say he didn't receive the card in the auction, but received something of much lesser value.

I don't know what to do here. Should I send him the item and risk him trying to get his money back after he received the card, or should I just be safe and cancel the transaction?

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

I would send it. The reason he bought it right away is because you had what he was looking for. If he just got started on Ebay he does not no how the process of making offers goes. I think you are selling something he wants really bad and does not care about the cost of it. I sell to first time buyers alot and I know your worries but it sounds like you had what he wanted and money does not matter. You should be fine. Merry X-mas

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

Some people dont like to haggle, and the card is likely an Xmas gift.

Send it to the address on file with Paypal when the payment has cleared with SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION and you should be fine.

Canceling a sale just because the buyer is new is a lousy thing to do, and can result in serious repercussions for your account.

Was that in the email from paypal?  If so, I'll bet is a scam........  even if not, check your paypal account to be sure the money is in the account.  If it shows pending, it means pending to them, probably an echeck that the buyer can cancel at any time........ if in doubt, call them.

People to come to ebay this time of year to buyer expensive stuff....and all goes well.......but never hurts to check and be sure...........

Make sure to add insurance and signature confirmation for delivrery for sure but I'm sure you already know that. First time buyers often start out with high ticket items as it's what gets them in to Ebay in the first place. You had what he wants and does not care about the price. I was selling bullion (gold & silver) for a bit. Never had any problems........................Woody

Um, no, not a scam; that's basically how the funds hold works (although feedback is not part of it).

The key here is to distinguish between verifying that the buyer's transaction has completed with PayPal (i.e. PayPal has the funds, and is showing "OK to Ship" on the transaction), and knowing that the funds will be held by PayPal after that until delivery has been confirmed. The 3-week term is the longest possible hold, in case of no on-line delivery confirmation (actually Signature Confirmation required in this case, as the sale is over $750).

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

Is your account on a hold pattern still because it's new to Ebay & Paypal. If that's the case the money is in there and there just making sure you send the item. I don't get why the money would be on hold for you since he's a new buyer it would only apply to him and not you.

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

Thanks for the responses. Appreciate the advice, it's very informative and helpful. I am still having doubts but it makes sense that maybe it's just an xmas gift from someone who usually doesn't shop online/ebay.

Both my ebay and paypal account were opened May 2016. I've already sold about 10 items last month, and the funds were available immediately on each one, but there was nothing over $80. This one is $850 so I'm guessing it's in hold because of the amount and their policy

Paypal says the transaction is complete, but pending b/c of the standard 21-day hold. Over $750? didn't know that about signature confirmation. So you would send the item in this case?

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

Ya I know, that's my main concern. It could very well be a buyer with money that doesn't care about haggling and is buying a gift. If that's the case, it's hard to deny him/her the item and get it to them before xmas so they can gift it. BUT, it could also very well be a scam where they will claim they received a cheap item and knows paypal will reverse their money back no matter what. Maybe targeting low (>100 total score) feedback sellers like myself, as power sellers are likely much more protected in cases like this.

Also to note, this card went in an auction 2 weeks ago for $342. I listed it for $850 expecting to sell it for half that price.....Didn't expect someone to pay the full listing price

Re: Sold High Priced Item to 0 feedback buyer

There's lots of people out there with money you know and willing to spend it at xmas time. I've sold many things with best offer at full price. The important thing is to make sure you have seller protection as "elligible" in paypal and that you ship with signature confirmation to the address in paypal, that it matches the address provided in the ebay sale.

Could be a scammer, could be a legitimate sale, and there is no way to know, your chances are at 50%. You listed the item on ebay and when you did, you decided to take that risk. The bottom line is never list anything on ebay that youar enot willing to lose, sad but true.

I would mail it off once I was sure the money had cleared in paypal. Give it 24 hours just to make sure there's no stolen credit card or something where the payment is yanked from your account, do not forget to insure, do not forget to get signature confirmation. Make sure that payment has cleared!!!

Your money may be on hold until the item is in the buyer's hands because ebay doesn't trust you with a higher dollar sale, find out which reason your money is on hold--very important you do so.
