Very slow week where all the buyers go hoping for better weekend

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

Maybe because buyers are sick of typing in items with search results showing unrelated porn!!! I know I am! I just typed in the name of a figurine and the 'best match' was a male appendage object, to put it discreetly, something that definitely should have been listed in ADULT Only. Last week my search results showed skimpy slu**y adult costumes, just because they contained ONE word of my search, they were of course the Featured items prominently displayed along side the results. Same thing for another item. I don't want to see those type of items as a part of my search, there is no reason they should have been in the results.....not even close to what I was looking for. Who ever is programming search must be a real perv!

Yes. Or, it’s completely hidden. I searched exact match keywords for a specific, rare item. No results on eBay. Even with throttling—this item should have come up in the search results. I then searched Google for the same thing and was shown three results from the same seller, all were active listings on eBay. So eBay’s search found 0 results—not even results for similar items.

February up until mid-March were very good for me. No petty returns, no difficult buyers, unwarranted lowball offers—just smooth sailing, huge growth spike.  I had three returns open from

3/17 to 3/21  (2 false INADS, 1 remorse) and my sales came to a screeching halt. With that, brought all the problematic buyers, unwarranted offers, nitpickers and tire-kickers. It’s like eBay has two traffic streams; direct the bad buyer traffic flow to the “low performing sellers” and direct the high-value customer traffic to the “good sellers”.

My 60-day average from 3/21 to now has tanked $2200.

When things like this happen, it’s not organic. It’s not the economy, the stock market, weather, trends, the Easter bunny, etc. It looks like this...

100% Correct! People can just choose to ignore the obvious and make silly excuses but you have to have buyers for sales and Ebay has done a marvelous job of creatively finding ways to make sure both buyers and sellers despise the notion of using this trainwreck over the years.

Yep, my mom had to pay an extra $800 to the IRS this year, no thanks to Trump's "Tax Cut of The Century", that's left Americans flat broke and unable to pay their bills. The middle class lost big time.

The only ones who're benefiting from this tax cut are generally business owners. ebay sellers should benefit, but the Average American is clearly not.

The IRS has even stated they've issued billions less in tax refunds this year, a failed tax reform is I ever saw one.

We haven't seen anything yet ! Just wait until all of the illegals waiting at the border get shipped off to all the sanctuary  cities  as  it was  threatened just today . Taxes will go sky high  although they'll call it something else like a tax on water  it will be used to cover the enormous costs . Tulips

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

You call them illegals, I call them humans, have a little more compassion and respect. You don't know what those people's circumstances are, and Americans have no place to judge. The U.S. Always has been, and always will be, a nation of immigrants. My great grandfather came here from Italy, and for anyone to refer to him as an "Illegal", when he fought for this country in the 2nd world war, is downright disrespectful.

I did see Trump threatened to send these people (yes, real people, you know humans, like you and me) to quote "Sanctuary Cities". Such actions have nothing to do with our taxes, nor the GOP's failed tax plan.

As for open borders, I do not approve of them at all. We have laws for a reason, and we cannot just have random people with no identification running across our borders. Its a threat to national security. On the other hand, Americans could show a little more empathy, again, you don't know what these people's circumstances are, likely much worse than ours. Something to think about.

As for the slow sales on ebay, we can all speculate, but it looks like there's a lot of negative factors involved; economic, ebay policies and changes, etc. ebay's stock is also tanking, down 5% this week so far.

There is only one definitive,  reason for the dead stop/slow down of sales:  ebay changing over the entire Buy it Now landscape to good to cancelled.

Every seller you talk to who used to run short term Buy It Now listings?  has the exact same story: Sales fell off a cliff since this started.  From the moment it started.

Now the common story is all the same: I am getting "watchers" instead of buyers.  My items are just sitting there and not moving.  This isn't working for me.  My sales have tanked. Etc, Etc, Etc.  Read the posts, they are ALL saying the same thing.

That is very telling of a huge problem here ebay has created.

Even sellers who used good till cancelled before routinely?  Are feeling the ripple effects of this too.  But make no mistake?  This change is the culprit, 1000%.

There's no secret, theres no surprise, theres no magical "mystery" here.  ebay did this to all of us, and to itself.

I predicted immediately that this change would destroy my and many businesses.  And not surprisingly?  It is doing just that so far.

This change also definitely came on the heels of some other bad circumstances, absolutely.  But I would say had it not been for this crazy change?

All sellers would have weathered these other rather transient, not so serious problems in the countries economy without a problem.

No matter what is going on?  You would never see this kind of universal down turn of sales on a selling platform like this, it's almost impossible on a site this size.

The only thing that causes something like this?

Is a massive, completely disruptive, destructive, ludacris, sweeping change to the entire landscape of the platform.

And that is what we are all witnessing, and trying to cope with  here.

I will venture to say that until this colossal blunder is corrected?  Things are not going to improve.

They are only going to get worse.

The only problem is that all the sellers who are being devastated by this?  Are going to probably be wiped out before ebay feels it on their bottom line, and changes things back in some way as a result.

But by then?  It will most likely be too late for a lot of people.

This is a very, very serious problem which needs to be addressed immediately.

ebay can apparently afford to experiment with destroying their platform in this way.  It's sellers who depend on this platform however?  Will not survive this kind of mass experiment with their incomes and livelihoods.  '

The proof is in the pudding people.

Stop drinking the kool aid and blaming this on everything from the way the dog farted yesterday, to the position of the moon,  to the words your alpha bits spelled out this morning in your cereal.

The stars haven't aligned against us, trump didn't destroy the country with his tax reform, and trust me?  Consumers are still buying things online.

The excuses I am hearing on here are exactly the excuses ebay wants all of you to be making.

Instead of understanding that "The Emperor Has No Clothes".

ebay is going to blame this on anything it can, except admit that they have torpedoed their own ship here.

Don't help them, and feed into their pride and arrogance, and unwillingness to admit they have made a terrible, huge mistake here.

The only way this will get fixed?  Is if they are forced to acknowledge this. And the sooner the better for everyone.

The country did not suddenly fall into an economic depression on March 18th 2019.

Something else happened, and we all know what it was.

If you can connect the dots in coloring book with a crayon?  You can easily figure this out..

If you are experiencing what everyone else is?  Slow or non existent sales since the change over to Good Till Cancelled site wide?

Get on the phone with ebay, ask for a supervisor, and lodge a formal complaint.  Explain why this is not working and voice all your concerns.

Once they get another hundred thousand more calls than they have already gotten?

Maybe something will be done to fix this..

That's all we can hope for.

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

cool - I appreciate your help - but I've been here 20 yrs - I know how to search - I know that since they changed to Cassini not all items appear in search even using exact keywords because Cassini takes into account what a buyer has previously searched for and bought so the results are skewed to show results that best match a buyers previous searches.

The items are not always indexing - sometimes it takes days and a revision before that item is in que. I know you feel Ebay is the end all and never have an unfavorable thing to say about the platform - but I'm more realistic. There are definite problems that have to be addressed in order to not make for a better buying experience but also to make for a better selling experience. Ebay is my number 1 venue to sell on - but it's far from perfect. And unfortunately - those at the top fail to see that fixing the problems we already have instead of introducing new features which almost always cause more problems isn't the answer.

Again - let's keep politics off these boards - there are other areas to discuss things like this.

OK but your post #7 suggested you could not find something you where looking for. I've never had that problem so thought you could use some help.

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

I agree, eBay's search is a real problem.  Search for something on Ebay and then then try the same search using Picclick. The results are vastly different and FAR more useful.

@tunicaslot wrote:

We did too - but as stated on another thread - I'm having problems finding things in search as so much is displayed that doesn't match what I'm searching for.

We always have an excuse for why sales are slow instead of admitting that there are problems.

While I think the GTC mandate has had an impact on sales - there are other factors at play - technical problems that receive little attention from eBay - sometime a result of policy changes themselves.   Search has been getting worse - not better - and the Google effect GTC will supposedly bring is overblown.

Of course, there are outside factors - personal economics, weather events, increased shipping costs, advent of yard sale season - even spring break and  probably the upcoming Easter holiday.    One thing I have noted in 2019 is that very few of my sales (only 8%) are from the west coast which last year accounted for over 30% of my sales.

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

I just googled Hitchcock Inn Side Chairs, found an image for an ebay listing and the link took me to a sold item.  Ebay (in it's infinite wisdom) then recommends a variety of chairs that don't match what I was looking for.

So I left them feedback on their suggestions.  "Not Helpful. I'm looking for MATCHES, like picclick.com"

Re: Slower than 🐢🐢🐢🐢

Are you using calculated shipping?  The new USPS rates have made cross-country shipping so expensive.

I agree the Google effect is overblown.  SEO indexing takes less than a week, not 30 days.
