Slow Sales !!!

What The Heck is going on? Sales : One week pretty good , the next week practically nothing! I've been selling since 2009. Over 15 thousand items  sold. Top Rated Plus Seller.  I know what I'm doing, Apparently eBay doesn't. They say keep listing until sales break loose, Well I'm at about 500 listings and just sold 3 items over the entire weekend !!  Sales sure as hell Haven't broke yet.

Yes, I've tried all types of promotions, And Sales and all the other tricks I've learned over the years and it's just throwing hard earned money away.

Talking to eBay about it is like talking to a dead skunk in the middle of the road. They just don't seem to care. No loyalty at all , even though I've stuck w/ them. Just feel like I have to vent. If anyone from eBay happens to see this, Please do YOUR job.

     Thanks for listening !!

Re: Slow Sales !!!

You've sold 58 items so far this month which is actually a little higher than your monthly average.

You may be looking at too short a time period.

Are your monthly sales up or down from the same period in 2022?2019?2018? (the pandemic surge in online buying makes 2020 and 2021 outliers)

Re: Slow Sales !!!

Slow Sales means, Slow sales. I'm not trying to rub it in to anybody. Sales down 36% at the moment !! For the year, down about 30%. It just sucks for most of us!

Re: Slow Sales !!!

Used to sell about 120 items per month, as you said right now about 60.  Maybe I'm just over reacting. When was the last time you saw an eBay commercial on TV? They're doing nothing to help. Can't even find most of my listing on Goggle?  Thanks!

Re: Slow Sales !!!

If you are talking strictly about eBay sales then yes my sales have been a bit slow and in fact have declined over the last few years especially post pandemic. EBay not constitutes less than 20% of my sales and that number keeps dropping. On the other forums/venues I sell on sales were increasing up until the last couple of weeks when it has gotten pretty quiet. I think there is a lot of  trepidation about the potential default on the national debt and the uncertainty about the potential impact since it has never happened before.

If there is a default in the short term the impact may be minimal but if it drags out for any length of time things could virtually come to a standstill with regards to sales.

Eating out may take a precedent over buying something else for some.

You've actually hit the nail on the head - increasingly people are preferring to spend their money on experiences - evenings out with friends, travel, etc., over acquiring yet more *stuff*.  This culture has been increasingly one of competitive acquisitive greed, and in a great way I think the pandemic reset people's world view into realising that beyond a certain level, acquisition of yet more material items is meaningless.

Burger, fries, Turkey Club, piece of Chocolate Cake and piece of Carrot Cake... $42 at a diner near camp.

There's all manner of things at play as each individuals $$$ usage and concerns vary along with that of retailers now being considerably more aggressive online versus a sideline to brick and mortar.  Vying for dollars is certainly more aggressive than the old "nn" disposable income.

Just the other day watching News Nation it was stated that there are some 5.n million jobs available and 7'n million folks who just don't care work.  It's one of the mechanisms that in S. America are being promoted and used by Cartels and then some at our border.  The migrants seeking come here are not doing so with goals of damaging America, quite the contrary, they come for a better life in the promise of America wanting to fill those jobs.  Interestingly as well, a large swath of those opportunities are in the trades.

America has done such a good job of selling ourselves that college is a must have in order to live well in the land there exists an ever shrinking pool of workers in the skilled trades.   The show had a gentlemen who's been establishing funds to help young folks learn the trades having already spent over seven million and another million coming shortly.  He said literally every construction company of any size is short skilled tradesman and most of these trades are six figure annual incomes.  He'd said more legal immigrants are taking advantage of the situation and within mere years earning more money than a huge swath of college educated jobs such as educators, clerical workers, paralegals on and on.  Electrical, plumbing, masonary on and on making great money...  He cited a plumber who began some years back and was earning six figures annually and now trained his own staff, runs his business and own's nine home's around the globe.

He'd said that many of these newly legal immigrants send money back home to family and that in itself also encourages others to make the trek to America.  Further he cited that American's seem to be blind to the fact that the skilled trades are loosing numbers whilst the demand is not only still there it is escalating.  That American's should be happy since they don't seem want to perform jobs such as Electrical, plumbing, masonary, construction, arborists on and on that the migrants are more than willing and happy to take those jobs and earn great livings doing so.  I know a fella who's an arborist and he's no problems making $2500-$3500 a week clear and absolutely adores the money when called into natural disasters where he can make one and half to two times that whether actually working or not.  That is to say on emergency duty they get paid whether or not they can access the work that need be done.  If electrical lines are down for example he get's paid until the power company makes the zone safe sitting in the truck making money hand over fist doing nothing.

Point all being, 5.n millions jobs Americans dont care to do and the trades which literally every American needs are waning in employee's.  But we're gonna scream about migrants who want come here for a better life, same as all our ancestors short of those who came here not of free will to take jobs that American's dont care to fill.

As to eBay I tend think it's becoming more of a "Seek a bargain" outlet and hence why most sellers I meet locally tell me they either get offers, give offers or even have people message them about better pricing.

Re: Slow Sales !!!

Hi Lisa,

One thing more to consider expanding your product range by diversifying your inventory. Research market demand and include popular and trending items in your offerings. This can attract a broader range of buyers and increase your chances of making sales.

Hope so this will also add some kick to your sales, and their is lot of statements out in market the only thing to stay consistent with new ideas to implement.

Regards,

Bryce June

Re: Slow Sales !!!

@bbcor_30 Somewhat related to that.

Years ago we had a seller here who had a B&M gift shop/antique shop in a resort town. He listed a combination of those items here, and his strategy was: His gift shop items has slimmer margins (bought new from a wholesaler) but because he knew the current trends, they sold consistently and relatively quickly, and he could create one listing to sell multiple identical items----they were his cash flow source. His antiques had higher margins, but were long tail items , which took longer to sell---they were his profit center.

The combination worked quite well. If he had only sold the gift shop items, he would have had to deal with much slimmer margins and much more pressure to sell quickly. If he had only sold antiques, his slower sales velocity would have meant he would be struggling with cash flow , making it difficult to source.

I always thought he had a pretty good idea. I've never really pursued the strategy for a variety of reasons, but I'm passing it along for others to consider.
