What The Heck is going on? Sales : One week pretty good , the next week practically nothing! I've been selling since 2009. Over 15 thousand items sold. Top Rated Plus Seller. I know what I'm doing, Apparently eBay doesn't. They say keep listing until sales break loose, Well I'm at about 500 listings and just sold 3 items over the entire weekend !! Sales sure as hell Haven't broke yet.
Yes, I've tried all types of promotions, And Sales and all the other tricks I've learned over the years and it's just throwing hard earned money away.
Talking to eBay about it is like talking to a dead skunk in the middle of the road. They just don't seem to care. No loyalty at all , even though I've stuck w/ them. Just feel like I have to vent. If anyone from eBay happens to see this, Please do YOUR job.
Thanks for listening !!

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques wrote:While I think the "experience over things" observation is true to some extent, I think there are still a lot of people buying "things".
Still, it is worth asking: what can we as sellers provide the "experience" buyers (assuming we aren't actually selling "experiences".)
Some thoughts:
Luggage, clothing (especially "vacation" and "adventure" type clothing), cameras (there's a current trend among younger people to use digital cameras, even though they have perfectly sound cameras on their phones), hiking type gear and other outdoor gear, various accessories for those who are traveling via RV or "glamping" (can include vintage stuff), travel guides, and more.
I'm sure others here could add to this list.
Yes, items that support experiences. Also kitchenware (particularly vintage) cool household goods. There's a trend toward the items needing to be immediately useful or have a purpose use. People will always collect, it's part of human nature, but what they collect seems to change. More contemporary items, or items and probably not as much, or items that reflect a childhood (say) that's not that long ago.
As for a digital camera over a smartphone - digital cameras have larger sensors and more sensitive adjustments, and are more flexible over a variety of conditions. Not everyone is point n' shoot - there are quite a few avid photography fans both of digital and still of film.

True about those items and I do think that reasonably priced toys are pretty inflation proof. Parents still want to get toys for their children. Margins are not as high as on some other items, but I like giving toys a second life.

Indeed. Stuffed animals are always a pretty steady seller for me because like you said, kids will always want toys.

My store shut off two days ago. Coincides with their category updates sitewide.

Well the stuff in their control, they don't fix. The site search for example is still as messed up as ever. Continually changing category stuff messes things up. They spend time adding junk no one wants and ignore problems we beg them to address. Flippin Aint Easy has found their impressions go down significantly if you are in the new Intl Shipping program. So yeah, theres plenty of stuff within their ability to correct and it isn't getting done. We are customers here too.

Yes sales have fallen off a cliff. Not only sales, but Views and Watchers. Where have they all gone?

Thanks for posting that. My thoughts EXACTLY!!
Sales have really sucked lately. People are just not buying. Very inconsistent and Ebay does nothing to help boost sales. Time to sell elsewhere

May is not as Horrible as April was.
I did however have a 5 day stretch with No sales again.
But as far as getting over the 1k a month back since......
That will be a challenge!

No, throttle sales to keep everyone happy, they still make fees on the non-throttled items, same for them. Now that's brilliant.

I feel the SAME way! I've been selling on Ebay for 20 YEARS, & sales all of 2022 & especially LATELY are NON-EXISTENT. Sometimes I check & make sure my Stores not accidentally "Closed for Vacation". The economy, sure. But does Ebay no longer Advertise anymore?? Ugh. I'm gonna have to go get a REAL job soon, if sales don't get out of the gutter....

last update seemed to really slow things down It typically does anytime they mess w the site. Economy is not helping I fear things are slowly going to get worse as all the inflation sucks whatever discretionary income that is left away. To be fair my brick/mortar is very very slow as well Many people either dont have money to burn or are scared to spend

The fix is easy though.
All you have to do is lower your prices. If not low enough, lower more, everyone loves a great deal.
Don't forget to pay for shipping and also pay for returns. Oh, and best is to promote your listings at the highest possible rate.
Don't worry about making a profit, instead send watchers a coupon, for an even better deal.
Happy selling 🙂

My store the last few days is effectively dead.

Here are two screen shots taken from larger generalized searches on ebay on the evening of May 23, 2023
The key word I used is "Survival" but any large search result will yield the same search results with Ebay (We've filtered out the listings for you). What you will see is that ebay omits almost 500K listings in a search like this. Specifically while sorting for low to high. How is this in any way fair to the omitted sellers?
This could certainly cause large swings in traffic and sales

Slow weekend myself. Its slow period. It will pick up at some point.
