Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

Just searched the term Airguide Rain Gauge under new listings. This search produced a list of automobile emblems that contained none of the words in my search except for the last two items which included all the words of my search. Below this list it showed matching fewer words revealing titles containing the words Rain Gauge. When I put quotes around the word "Airguide" with the words Rain Gauge it showed only the two listings with Airguide Rain Gauge in the title. No results for matching fewer words.

It's Not perhaps, It's a definite ongoing problem that does nothing but hinder sales!

Re: Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

The "keyword spammers" like the auto parts seller cause undesired results to show up.

That spammers titles are so poor that one would be hard pressed to find them.

I just did a search and I got just the same as you. However when I did a Google search, ebay listings did come up.

Re: Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

That has been the biggest problem with ebay over the last few years- ever since they introduced the full on AI integration into search.   It has been a struggle ever since and the platform started showing month over month declines in sales and GMV.   Until someone at ebay stops blaming everything else under the sun for the problems and address the search issue- we will continue this decline. People cannot buy what they cant see. Ebay search effectively hides listings because it cant find accurate results!. we have to go to google to find ebay listings- COMPLETE STUPIDITY

And then there are times when you are doing your consistent normal routine, and your store gets sales, and then its like a flip gets switched and you see nothing for 3-4 days.  Throttled to OFF.

The search engine on eBay has, as others stated, been broken for a long time. It is one of the reasons I seldom shop for anything on eBay these days.

Re: Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

sellers and buyers alike have been saying it for years- the search is so bad that it makes it near impossible to find anything on ebay.  the algorithms are so manipulated toward Chinese trinkets and promoted listings that it looks over the actual items that were search for!

This frustrates and stifles sales- i cant find the logic behind this decision to not show people what they search for..... its just AI that is bad

Re: Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

I really think the problem with search started when they introduced item specifics, so now sellers will put anything in there, and that results in ebay showing you what you are not searching for.

Too many item specifics = Total confusion for any search engine, keep it simple.

Re: Slow Sales perhaps search function is cause

If a search that has worked well previously suddenly starts behaving badly, often the problem has something to do with a faulty keyword substitution or an inappropriate automatic category navigation issue.

You can bypass many of these sorts of search issues by putting one of your keywords in quotes. This forces eBay to bypass the "smart" features and to search for the literal keywords without any substitution or category switching. You may have to manually specify your category once again.

Using a desktop browser, find the "Feedback" icon that appears in the lower right corner of the search results page to let eBay page developers know about your search issues.
