Sold a $1,700.00 excellent condition very low mile running Motorcycle Motor on eBay.
Purchaser asked if I would accept $1600 and if I would also include the wire harness with the sale.
Before I could respond, he purchased for asking price of $1700 but failed to pay.
I sent him a msg telling him i can’t go any lower on the price but I will give him the wire harness for free at no extra cost and that I won’t be back home until the 20th and to expect delivery at the end of the month.
He replied by stating “ok”he will pay on the 20th when I return.
His profile location shows as Baker CA, but the Delivery address shows up as a 2-star HOTEL/LODGE and a room number out in Lemoore CA.
after doing research using his full name I come up with no results, nothing on Facebook nothing on white pages or yellow pages, and nothing matching his name in either city. The hotel won’t give me any information either which is understandable.
He has 26 positive feedback and is fairly new to eBay.
I have a really really bad feeling about this sale and my gut tells me to avoid it at any cost.
I know for a FACT eBay will side with and refund ANY buyer returning back a box of rocks 110% of the time.
Should I Pull out ? and if so how can I do so without being stuck with the final sale fees/negative feedback.
This is really bothering me and I truly lost a lot sleep over this. Can you please chime in with some advice?
Thank you and may god bless you.
what would you do ? I want to hear it ?

Does this make it any less risky ?
NONE WHAT SO EVER.... And okay.... supposing it did have the potential to ultimately end in your favor... But proving this and showing that and collecting documents and blah blah blah .... Would you really want to have to go through all of that drama to get to that point? I know I wouldn't ....my life has enough stress in it as it is.

What exactly makes you think this is going to be a bad transaction?
What I see here is ...
Someone living in a temporary place (weekly hotel) trying to get their motorcycle repaired so that they have transportation.
I've been in that sort of financial situation ... basically almost homeless ... with no transportation ... no way to go anywhere to even look for work and get out of the "temporary" hole.
If they pay ... ship.

You should actually be able to contact PayPal and they will be able to tell you whether their address is confirmed or not. PayPal is great in my opinion and I have never had any issues with them not honoring a technical question. Personal privacy is notwithstanding and PP (for me) has always had a great sense of transaction perspicacity.

To answer your question ,
If the scenario you provided was relevant to his, and he was in a bad financial situation and needed his bike repaired then he could of at least waited for my response in regards to his initial private msg asking if I would accept $1600 with the wire harness. If I agreed to his offer which would of helped his financial situation would of saved him money that he likely could use in such a situation. But he never waited for a response from me and just purchased at asking price. This didn’t make sense to me as he could of at least waited and possibly saved money. There wasn’t even 6hour time lapse from his private offer to using buy it now feature.
Another reason why I think he isn’t in such a situation is because he also wants the wire harness to the engine and only in RARE situations Like a engine fire would you need to replace both the motor and wire harness again leading me to believe that’s not the case as you stated . It’s very rare that you would need to replace both engine and harness in a broken down situation. But I’m not saying your wrong , I’m only saying it’s highly unlikely he’s broken down stuck at a motel because his bike needs repair . If that was the case he would likely need either one or the other but very rarely both harness and motor.
Or ... somebody gave him a non-working bike to help him get back on his feet. Or he got it super cheap because it needed both motor and harness.
Or ... his home and bike were both burnt up in the Wildfires a few months ago.
I Said nothing about being broken down and stuck ... I said living in a weekly hotel.
Maybe he hit the BIN thinking you would reject his offer.

I also asked if he was willing to send a copy of his drivers license to put me more at ease with whom I’m dealing with.
Let me turn this around as a buyer. How does a buyer know this bike is yours to sell ? Would you be willing to send a copy of the title in your name and a copy of your drivers license to a buyer?
Why are you selling the motor that " Comes from a VERY clean 2012 R1 , Great running bike with under 7k miles, I personally rode the motorcycle and it sounds perfect shifts perfect revs flawlessly rides excellent shifts perfect and goes in every gear with ease , absolute powerhouse, doesn’t leak doesn’t knock doesn’t tick! Absolutely no issues what so ever. Very very healthy and strong , garage kept and well maintained. " ?
A quick search ( 2012 r1 for sale) shows those bikes are for sale from 8 to 11K on Motorcycles.Autotrader.
That appears fishy to me. JMO

Since the buyer has not paid yet you really do not know the address that the item will be shipped to.
The only address that matters is the one that is sent with the payment.
