Should I just start refunding without getting the item back?

So I sold an item and shipped it out the following day with tracking.  USPS shows they tried to deliver the package but apparently it was going to a buisness and was closed. This is the last update from USPS which still shows the item in transit. Buyer opens a case for INR, I upload the tracking information but it does not show up in the case like they normally do, keep in mind eBay should have this information since I created the shipping label thought their system. I am guessing the part is on its way back to me but USPS does not show if it is or not.  I told the buyer I would send it back out ounce I got the item back.  Never heard back.

Yesterday I see the buyer opened another case. I am not sure what kind but I am guessing another INR. Ebay decided in the buyers favor and said I did not respond to the case. The opening and closing seemed to happen within minutes and I now have a brand new defect for my time. Do you all believe I should have just sent a refund even though it still showed to be in transit. Chances are he will now have the refund and the item if USPS tries another delivery. How am I supposed to respond to a new case if it opened an closed withing minutes.  Shouldn't the buyer be responsible for having a location to recieve the package? Here are the details of what I have:

 Here's what happened

Oct. 17 :The case was resolved
Oct. 17 :The buyer has opened a case
CommentsSent the seller a message about my package about refund for days no hasnt responded

Oct. 2 :You added tracking details
Comments USPS show the buisness has been closed during delivery
Sep. 30 :The buyer didn't receive the item
Buyer wantsThe item
CommentsI bought the item but it has never came in the mail

Buyers cannot open similtaneous cases. One has to close before another one opens.

When was the estimated date of arrival.

This is why I feel you always need to make a follow up call and not depend on the system to do it for you.

You should have called ebay, uploaded tracking, showed it was about to be delivered, but the place was closed, and asked for an extension of time.

Has it been delivered yet?  Can you recall it?  You can not depend on the buyer to return it after a case closes.

Need more details to better help you.

Here is the UPS tracking number.  9400109699937907665612

It looks like they tried to deliver it today.  They show the cutomer requested it to be delivered to a new address in Florida. WTH, I did not request this. I guess I get a defect and they get a refund and the item.

I would call ebay CS and find out what happened. USPS usually holds the package to try to redeliver, or leaves notice and asks them to pick up in post office. They may still get item

Immediately call the Post Office and recall the package back to you.

Also give ebay a call and show them the buyer is trying to pull a fast one and get it on record.

Unfortunately I have recently learned that buyers for a fee can get packages resent to a different location.

Hopefully all the correspondence went through eBay.

Sometimes the CSRs need (re)training on things like, I duuno, reading notes and such.  Trust me, this happened to us on a sizable issue which was decided in our favor as not covered under the MBG.  Yet within minutes, the buyer (who knew better) had gotten ahold of some CSR who listened to their half-true sob story and immediately appealed the decision.  Luckily I'd been talking to CustServ all along on the matter since I had a gut feeling there would be trouble.  (We did not have to refund though the buyer did get their money back.)

Very long story short, some CSRs do NOT pay any attention to policy, least of all what has happened or been communicated.  If you have the time, keep calling and asking to speak to someone who 1) speaks your language as first language and 2) will listen to the case rather than pushing a button blindly.

Check out my last post. It looks like the thief is having the package redirected to a new address.  I am waiting for the Winter update that requires us to send all buyers a bag of money with their item. hahah

Who is the "customer" who had it sent to Green Acres, FL?

The package has been in transit for a month....

As I explained that has nothing to do with ebay.  Some carriers as a service, if you come in and ask that they direct your mail, will do so.

An example, my MIL went from her home into a nursing home.

We had all of her mail directed to our home address.

There are legit reasons for doing it.

But in this case your buyer got a refund for INR and is still asking for the package to be redirected somewhere.

Which is why you have to find out where it is and have it recalled back to you before the buyer gets it.

It was, what little of it we had. I am going to attempt to have it redirected. I will have to call eBay later, I am off work in a few minuetes and have to get the kids. I was not to concerned with it until the defect showed up about a half hour ago.

Thanks to all for the help. I will check back in the morning.

Doesn't it seem weird that it was redirected and hasn't moved in a month?  How has no one noticed?

It should be the person I sent it to. It looks like USPS tried to deliver it a couple of times to the original address.

Now that you mention that, it does. I was thinking 9/19/17 was today.

I don't know how valuable the item is but I would get on the phone with the PO ASAP or stop in your local branch.
Then, once you have all the info, come back and someone can help you on getting this resolved with eBay.
Good luck!

Recall the package if you can. I have no way of knowing who your buyer is but I had an almost identical case and the location was Greenacres, FL. The only difference was that the item was delivered. While the tracking stated that the package was redirected to the buyer's "new" address, she claimed that she didn't redirect the package. I even called her PO and the guy I talked to confirmed that the addressee had a redirect eBay still refunded this "valuable costumer".
