Should I even bother?

A buyer claims their credit card sent them a notice of payment made to me for an item and they received a shipping notice but no item. Yes, their messages is pretty vague and confusing. I wasn't able to find any purchases made from that buyer's ebay ID, so I asked if they used a different account to purchase (happens quite a bit). If so, I asked for more info like an ebay ID, buyer full name, or order number.

They sent me another confusing message, but I was able to pick out what looks like an order number, but it's missing a digit. I found a suspected order that MIGHT be the buyer's that has the 11 out of the 12 order number digits (the buyer still only gave me 11 digits. The extra digit was somewhere in the middle of the order number. Since it's not 100% confirmed, I can't disclose the order info to this ebay user thru messages.

Anyway, one day after I asked the buyer for the complete order number, that suspected order just arrived to the buyer. And one day after that, the suspected order filed a payment dispute against me claiming INR. The dispute details says I'm covered and don't need to do anything.

Should I even bother communicating with that original buyer ID who was messaging me? I'm covered financially. Seems like the buyer used a different account and unsure how to show me details, as well as not know their item arrived so they file a credit card dispute. Sounds like a bit of a mess and the buyer might just be utterly confused and communicating isn't their strong suit.

I might message the buyer with the # confirming the delivery, or I might just increase my best buddy list.

Probably  a scammer.

Tell them to file a Not Received Claim with eBay.

Don't tell them how.

That's their job.

Don't do anything.

Did you work out what the item was?

Was it delivered within the promised time frame?

Buyer who messaged never stated what the item was, but the messaged was linked to a listing that was the same listing as the "suspected order" I mentioned. That's one way I connected the dots, just not 100% confirmed.

And yes that suspected order received their item within the ETA

Was it through EIS?

Sounds like a highly confused person who doesn't buy much on here. You cannot ignore the INR case, so just upload the tracking info which will show it was delivered and the case will close in your favor. I would not bother to contact this buyer again because the case will be closed, and they will have received the item. Best of luck to you....

It's not an INR case, it's an INR payment dispute that says I'm already covered and no exists for me to respond. Typically when I get these I just ignore it and the payment source rules in the buyers favor and ebay pays me out.

Yea I'm hesitant to reply to the buyer anymore since it's not 100% confirmed that they are in fact linked to the "suspected order", and any further communication will cause more confusion like a opening a can of worms. But if anyone has any quick short replies that will nip this in the bud, I will consider it. If this buyer is in fact the same buyer as the suspected order, then he will get his money back and a free item and hopefully won't care that I stopped communicating with them.
