Should I block Insulting Buyer

Listed a booklet awhile ago that was probably self-published.  The item does not show up anywhere else on the internet, not Amazon, not ABE , nowhere.  Sent an offer to this watcher who countered with a bit of a low ball offer.  I countered half way.  Then this jack-o'-lantern counters with an offer all of 50¢ above his original offer.  Normally I would just ignore such an insult.  But I thought to myself that now I don't really want to sell the book at my original offer price or at any price to this person.  The question is should I get really petty and block the buyer?

And yea, I am feeling a bit frisky today.

In my experience,  low ball offers are to be ignored.  Don't even start a back and forth.  They might come back at you with another account.  Another nightmare situation is they accept your offer and then complain about what they received, nit pick and try to extort money from you.  Do you really want to engage in an impromptu coloscopy?   You won't thank me you will thank yourself by quickly moving on from trouble.  Trust your gut instinct.  Some people are lonely and need to engage in artificial conflicts to fill their void.  Don't be that void.

Nah. Decline them. They ask again? Tell them, 'no.'

Kind of amazes me, with the tools sellers are given to sell here, so many advise to ignore the offer or block the buyer.

eBay gives you the tools to set a lower limit on an offer you deem acceptable. If you have something listed for $100 but will not accept an offer for less than $50, the tools are there to use so you never have to even mess with those offers. It's an auto decline on those offers.

If you are not willing to take offers, then you don't have to. But in the same respect, don't use best offer if you have no intention of taking an offer (I've seen that more times then I care to count).

Suggesting to just ignore it and let it time out is pretty poor advice too. Part of how your items are shown is based upon your response as a seller. If your response time sucks, eBay is less inclined to give you traffic.  Ignoring offers and letting them time out, is costing you views.

Having fits, throwing hissys  and stomping around, will get you no where here. If you are here to sell, then everyone should act like it.  Use the tools you are given to your advantage. Be a professional, you ARE a business after all, no matter how small a seller you are. Every buyer expects the same professionalism from every seller.

Pardon me, I guess I should have inserted an emoji to indicate the somewhat tongue -in-cheek nature of my original post as clearly my stating "should I get really petty" and "I am feeling a bit frisky today" was insufficient for some.

@m60driver I thought it was a serious question as well - especially based on your f/u responses.  Did not read the OP as a tongue-in-cheek at all......🤔

It was both a legitimate question as well as a bit tongue and cheek.  And you are mistaken, no response of mine was "f/u".   As I said, I should have inserted an emoji but those just don't come naturally to this aging curmudgeon.

I decline, block and move on.  Never engage in a back and forth with a troll, especially in a hostile manner...all that gets saved on the server.  I don't know if you can anymore, but you used to be able to report a user.  I've only done that once when the potential buyer got really insulting with no provocation.

I still have buyers on my blocked list from 15+ years ago...haha.

The comment was not directed at you. It was a general statement of some of the responses I have seen in the past.

I have sold books (on another ID) that my inventory slips tell me were first listed in 2009.

Some things take a while to find the right customer.

My old business partner would *raise* the price if the shopper was being an a**hat. This is treatment reserved for that special shopper, especially if it was in person. (He called it 'Dutch Negotiating')

It's a cheap source of entertainment and satisfaction. They were never going to buy (and if they did, they would be trouble) so you get your little moment of SELLER POWER. Then an hour later, feeling better, you put the price back to where it should have been.

You've got to have some fun here.

You sent an offer to a watcher. The watcher wanted to play the game. You've got all insulted over it, called the watcher a turnip, and started a thread here because you're considering putting the block on.

I think the "should I get really petty" ship has already sailed.

Never said it was. I'm only going by the O.P. post.

buyer made low ball offer

seller countered halfway of that offer and list price

buyer responds with an offer that was only .50 higher than their first offer

Seller notes that could not find the same item listed anywhere else. Did they do a deep search of brand name or publishing company? I don't know.

This is the way I look at it. The seller is the owner of the item and can do as they wish. They do not need to accept a buyers offer if they wish.
