I just listed a vintage shirt and almost immediately got a notice that the listing had been taking down for being "Counterfeit". This same shirt is being sold by 20+ other sellers. Mine is legitimately vintage and in excellent condition. What gives? People buy these shirts and then literally make copies of them and sell them all over ebay (not this specific design that I'm aware of) and no one bats an eye but a legitimate vintage shirt? "Counterfeit". There also doesn't seem to be any resolution available either, the email says don't reply....like **bleep** eBay???

There may be differences in some of those other listings or the seller may have received permission to sell them. It is hard to say. You know it is easy to compare what you are selling to what other sellers are doing and then not understand how they are allowed to sell it and you are not.
It is entirely possible that some of those other items should not be listed too and maybe Ebay will catch up to them but they also may not. With around 2 billion active listings on any given day, it is a challenge to have them all reviewed, even by AI.
Don't relist this until you have been cleared. In the email you received there should be contact info for who you should contact. Once Ebay gets notification from a Vero member about a listing, Ebay is required to close that listing.

It would be helpful if you revealed exactly what shirt it was.

I didn't say I got a Vero notice....I said I got a notification it was taken down due to being "Counterfeit"

Touche' - If you search Dimebag Darrell Shine On shirt you'll find a bunch of them, my listing will obviously not be there lol

Love Dimebag 😞 This won't help you, but I got one of these on a t-shirt. It had been for sale for years. But since I got it at a thrift, I couldn't be certain it wasn't counterfeit, so I just took it down & didn't relist. I did look at the website of the brand it was associated with & they had the same tee, in a different colorway, so I suspect mine was either real & an old colorway or maybe counterfeit, but who would counterfeit a Ruger t-shirt?
Also, as I'm sure you know, a tee can be legit vintage & still counterfeit, esp rock tees cuz there are so many 'parking lot' versions. Not much you can do unless you can prove it's legit & even then I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Do you have the item specific "brand" as "unbranded" but list a brand in the title or description? I once had an official Pokemon shirt removed for counterfeit and when I input "Pokemon Center" as the brand it's been fine since. This helpful tidbit was actually told to me by CS chat.

I actually had a counterfeit reversed in a similar way. I had gotten a counterfeit notice on a scarf. My scarf had no label, so I had it listed as Unbranded. I did not actually know what the brand was, since it had no label & I'd never seen it before. I called & made the case that it can't be counterfeit b/c counterfeit what? I never said it was a particular brand. eBay allowed me to relist it.

I listed it as Gildan because it's on a Gildan shirt. I will say I used sell similar from another users auction that had sold and changed some of the item specifics, one of which was brand. They had the brand listed as "Dimebag" I believe. That being said there are several up right now with the brand as Gildan so I don't know what the issue could possibly be.
Here is an image from my auction (I obviously can't link the original listing)

It just doesn't make sense, especially when if you search "Dimebag Darrell Shirt" you will find tons of listings for ACTUAL COUNTERFEIT Shirts 😂😂😂 Like these Chinese companies that sell bootlegs of every vintage shirt under the sun and list them using pictures of REAL vintage shirts and then have every size and color available. I've had some of these businesses steal my main photo of a real vintage shirt to then sell their counterfeits with...eBay couldn't care less. I know band tees in general can be bootleg but this was purchased by me personally at a merch booth at a show (I don't remember where exactly). I never bought from the guys in the parking lot because A. Those shirts usually LOOK bootleg lol and B. When you wash them they fall apart very quickly.

It even has the website printed on the back.....I feel like you can tell just by looking at it that it's a legit shirt

IDK enough about it to know. But if you purchased it yourself at the concert booth, you can certainly give it a shot to call eBay. I did have one reversed once. But without proof, I doubt they'll reverse it for you. It's always a luck of the draw with these. Same as with VERO. Who knows why suddenly my Ruger shirt after being listed for about 7 years was deemed counterfeit? I've had that happen with VERO's too. 100 others listed & they don't get one. It's been listed for years. I find the analogy of the cop/speeding ticket to be the most appropos. Sometimes you're the one that gets caught. I don't think the website being on it, means anything. It's just print & can be on a counterfeit shirt too. You gotta decide if it's worth the frustration to you to call eBay & try to challenge it.

I sold one of these many many moons ago, mine was on a Hanes Tee, didn't have any issues with ebay but they also did not have AI (Artificial Ignorance) then either. Not sure what to tell you.

When I was in the merch business (80's & 90's), anything that had a Gildan tag was a knockoff unless it was some indie band making their own stuff.
03-31-2025 05:00 PM
Lol it's not a knock off - like I said I bought it at a merch booth at a show, not some rando in the parking lot.
I gwt what you're saying but in my experience that's not really true, I've had legit band tees from the 90s that are sometimes printed on Hanes and Gildan shirts - purchased at retailers like HotTopic.
I just posted a vintage (just barely) 2005 south park shirt that's deadstock new with the tags...its printed on a delta shirt. Some South park shirts have a South park tag. Most bootleg tees are on no name shirts because they don't want to waste money getting a quality blank tee. (In my experience)
