I used Pirateship to generate a shipping label for a return, Priority Mail Flat Medium Box. The top of the return label looks like this
It's vague doesn't specify the type of Priority Mail service I paid for like it does with a traditional postage label. What happens if the buyer doesn't use the Medium Flat Rate box to return it in? Using a generic Priority Mail box like #7 or even a non-Priority Mail box would cost more in the return shipping. I told the buyer to use the same box it came in (Medium FR Box), and he said okay.
I can't help to wonder what happens if he doesn't use the correct box since the label doesn't specify. I created a test label for weighted-Priority Mail. And while the cost was expectedly higher, the top of the label looks exactly the same as the FR Box one I showed up top.

Our experience with returns has been that people rarely use packaging that items were originally sent in and we have never been charged more because the buyer sent items in let’s say a bigger box, priority or not.
Return labels are basic, like you have shown. Ebay/Pirate Ship has never charged us more because a buyer used different packaging.

It is specific.
It's a priority return service label.
It doesn't matter what box the user uses.
Return services don't play by the same rules. You will be fine.

So.... There is an option in PirateShip to specify that the label is a return label?
In order to select that does the original shipping label have to be bought from PirateShip?

Yes.
If you purchased the label from Pirate Ship, you can get a return label by going to that shipment, clicking duplicate label, then a menu of options will come up. Select return label which will reverse addresses for you, for the return.
Its been awhile since we’ve used Pirate Ship, but from what I recall, that’s all there was to it.
Hope this helps! ☺️

That's not what I do. I'm able to create a return label without having to create the original label from them.
I just input the buyer's address and choose the necessary package info. Then I click on the box that says "Return Labels" in Extra Services. There you have the option of creating an outbound label and a return label (I assume two separate labels pop out as I've never done this) or you can create just the return label only.
The good part about that is that I'm able to kick out return labels and not get charged for it until the barcode scans into the mail stream. I also get more CC rewards since I get higher percentages for buying postage, something that going thru ebay won't offer.
