Can anyone tell me how a seller can sell a 7.99 [wholesale cost] item on ebay for 1.99 with free shipping.
Oh and how can a china seller sell a .41 cent ring or something and ship it free to the USA?

Either your getting "whosed" by your wholesaler or the products are different. Chinese sellers have subsidized shipping.

Asian shippers pay $0.87 or less for packages under 1lb, per the state deparments announcement last month. 4 years of negociation and the Asian sellers did get a fee hike.... to $0.87 cents.

One reason a seller might take a loss on an item is to bring traffic and shoppers to their listings in hope they will check out full-priced merchandise once there. (That’s called a loss leader.) Another reason a seller might take a loss is to build up their feedback score, by selling many inexpensive items in a relatively quick time.
