Sellers and buyers are affected by the cost of everything. If food goes up there is less to spend on other items that may not be as necessary. Gas and fuel too. It's all relevant.
Sellers should optimize shipping, make sure it's as low as possible. Sometimes that means shaving a box down, sometimes that means switching from Priority to Ground Advantage and also opting to pass on shipping discounts to buyers. That first price impression can close the sale.

The USPS rate increase it ridiculous. They do it because “they can”

Here's a fact for you.
The blame for the USPS rate increase usually comes down to
the price of gas going up, up, up. Ok, I agree with that.
But several years ago when gas prices went down, down, down,
the USPS didn't lower their prices. They never do. and they never will.

You think the USPS rate increase is ridiculous? Next time, drive it across the country yourself, and then let us know how much that cost you.
03-10-2024 10:33 AM
Seriously, you expect the USPS to raise and lower their rates based on the current price of gas?

what is presently much more of a problem to me it the amount of packages that the USPS is loosing, I would say that they have lost more of mine in 2024 than I lost in the last 5 years combined

USPS has had a contract with "Amazon" since 2013, when it started delivering packages on Sundays.
Amazon has increasingly come to rely on postal carriers to make "last-mile" deliveries in harder -to-reach rural locations.
Returns to Amazon can be dropped off at USPS. Let's not blame the USPS for rising costs of using USPS.
Some sellers on eBay also sell their items from Amazon... whether they live in the USA or another country.

Amazon is using USPS far less frequently in many parts of the country. If there is use of USPS it is likely to be solely in rural areas. Because of the lower populations in rural areas, this is decreasing important to Amazon strategy.
Amazon Logistics - its own delivery operation - uses independent contractors which usually cost them less than USPS. It has tight metrics for the drivers which are more efficient than USPS.
Amazon Logistics has sophisticated delivery algorithms which integrate their long haul and last mile deliveries. Last mile with USPS required long haul deliveries in the early AM to POs. Their own deliveries provide for greater flexibility in long haul arrivals, and may deliver to the same location several times a day. There are days when my condo receives 2 or 3 Amazon deliveries.
New FBA pricing is forcing sellers to send to more warehouses or pay a penalty. This will make it easier and more efficient for their own last mile deliveries.
The cost of shipping by all carriers is such that many items are not effectively sold online. Amazon FBA sellers are paying less for shipping and fulfillment than other online sellers pay for shipping, which was not the case a few years back.
USPS Ground Advantage was created to start to address a weak FEDEX and a UPS which is feeling pain. Whether it can succeed is an open question.

yes and a new rate increased is up for approval already

The USPS has raised its rates periodically since the day it was born. Why does this surprise people?

I first read that as: "The USPS has raised its rates periodically since the day I was born."
Which is also true !!

I am laughing my backside off. Several things, we don’t drive, we fly…the cost of us driving is considerably different than bulk packaging going in a truck or a plane.
I am going to tell you how nonsensical their rate increase is…I had a 9oz package to ship one state a way and it cost me $5.09. On the other hand I shipped a package to the East coast 1.5 pounds and it was only $7 give or take a few cents. So both were ground advantage…made no sense.
‘’I am sure you are complaining about the price of gas still. 🙄
