Did you mean:

Shipped a USPS 1st Class with the new shipping label program this morning.

The “ship by date” shown was wrong by 2 days. It shows ship by September 28th when it should have shown September 26th.

This statement on the right side of the page is misleading:

“Make sure your label is clearly visible, and that there is no tape over any barcodes.”

New sellers may construe this as to not using any clear tape over the barcode to protect the barcode from moisture or scratching.

It printed the “smaller size ” label which is OK.

Over all the new shipping label system was usable for USPS 1st Class Package. No Problems.

I haven't found a wireless thermal printer yet. I'm waiting for them to catch up with wireless technology before converting.

The only suggestion I have about the dates you mentioned is that it might be possible that you have a 2 day handling time and printed the label earlier than what you stated in the listing.

As far as taping over the tracking code.  We have done this for about 2 years without even the first issue in doing this.

Good Luck Selling!

I just printed out another label for a order that came in this afternoon and same deal. Says to ship by September 28th. I have same day handling if ordered before 12pm CDT and 1-Day handling if ordered after 12pm.

The system missed the correct day by one day this time.  jfyi

Roger that. I came back to selling 21 months ago and have always taped over the barcodes with the clear packing tape. Never an issue with 1100+ shipped.

I just printed an extra ink printed label and put 2 drops of water on it for 30 seconds and wiped it off. Don't look good to me. The label would tear easy as well.

I have not graduated to a thermal printer yet......

not goodnot good

Re: Shipped a USPS 1st Class with the new shipping label program this morning.

Thermal labels burn text/images onto label surface - not affected by water unless paper/label falls apart
Laser labels use plastic powder fused to label surface - not affected by water unless paper/label falls apart.
Inkjet labels are printed with water soluble ink sprayed onto label - one drop of water and ink runs as your image shows.

I have taped over all labels completely for years with zero issues. (it also protects the labels when pkg is label side down and grinding along a conveyor or stuck with a conveyor belt trying to grind the label off, and prevents black shipping schmutz from obscuring the label )

The only issue I have ever had with taping over the bar code is that the occasional wrinkle in the tape may "confuse" the scanner. Likewise if I cover the bar code with two stripes of tape running vertically as opposed to horizontally - the overlap seems to cause the scanner some hiccups as well.

Re: Shipped a USPS 1st Class with the new shipping label program this morning.

I leave a 1/8" horizontal strip across the barcode untaped. That way every scanner en route is happy. The scanners don't really care how wide or how long the barcode is - if they did, then it would matter what size the barcode is and we'd be forever fussing with the label size.

One way or another, if the scanner can't read the taped part of the barcode, it can still read the untaped part.

That's poor advice, and contrary to what is stated by USPS carriers who post on this board.  I'll take their advice rather than some eBay's staffer's!

I agree. Although I've never had any trouble in the past, about 2 years ago I decided to cover the label.

Just 1 drip of water in the wrong place.......

The main problem with the new shipping labels page is still not being able to change the "ship from" zip code. Some post offices might not care about this, but the one's here in NY do certainly do!

I heard/read somewhere that changing the ship from zip code was available under other options or some such. Can anyone verify that?

This is an interesting take on how to do it. Kind of the best of both worlds. Saw that an earlier poster did basically the same deal.

Shipped a regular ole Priority Package at 2lbs this morning with no issues. Just an fyi and thought the pics might help anyone who was wondering about using the new label system. All the choices are shown.

Addendum: After posting this, I see that the pics are not very clear......  Sorry

........the new format takes two full screens to show the options.

The old format used a dropbox which did the same job in a single action.

Which is more time efficient?

Not on the new Shipping page yet, to my knowledge. Someone from eBay conceded (within the past month or so, I think) that they didn't have that functionality figured out yet for the new form. Every now and then I go poking around the new form to see if it's been added, but have not seen any additions recently.

As for why they were replacing the old form which functions perfectly well (and is mandatory, in cases where you need to calculate shipping from a different ZIP than that of the return address, as the new form cannot do that), they explained that it was too difficult to make changes to it. Not clear what those changes were going to be, but apparently their current programmers were not up to the task of maintaining whatever their predecessors put together.

Careful what you say.

Because ebay employees always think they are improving things when they're not......someone might get the bright idea to go 3 screens.

Re: Shipped a USPS 1st Class with the new shipping label program this morning.

I am so sick of changes. With all that is going wrong, when I see a huge change like this it just bothers me to no end. Let alone the fact that USPS thinks they can raise their prices 3 times a year, and we lost the 20%. We are losing descriptions and pictures to glitches but other things are getting a whole new look! **bleep** now I am complaining.

I'm not seeing a button to click for other options......?
