Shipment delay due to Canada strike

So I sent a package out to customer in Canada early November. It was supposed to arrive by Thanksgiving. It didn’t and customer put in a refund request because package hadn’t arrived. Upon checking I learned that the Canadian Post Office is on strike. I called USPS and they said they are no longer accepting, processing or delivering packages to Canada. They also said they can’t track eBay shipments because their tracking numbers are unique (that’s another issue).

I explained this to the customer and their reply was send another package via a different shipping company. My question is if I send another product via alternative shipping companies can I charge the customer for the new product if they don’t return the original when it arrives? They already paid for product A and is in limbo because of strike and will eventually be delivered. If l send product B which is costing me money, can I charge for product B if product A isn’t returned? If so how? Customer will receive two products with only one charge. I’m trying to figure out how to go about this. Any help is greatly appreciated?

Shipment delay due to Canada strike

EBay probably did little in the face of the pending strike simply because it would be detrimental to their bottom line. Canada is one of the top 10 when it comes to ecommerce buying and selling and eBay was probably not all that keen on loosing that market share.

I don't disagree with the thought..........but what action would you have taken since the strike wasn't assured until it actually happened?    Sellers/buyers would have screamed if sales were cut off and then the strike didn't happen......Big difference between government sanctions because of an ongoing war and a civil strike that may or may not happen...........and that could be settled in hrs/days.......

Agree 100%. No need for eBay to take any action before the strike happened other than to prepare for it as they did with the announcement. On the day the strike happened eBay could have simply added Canada to the list of countries sellers don't ship to just as they did with the Russian Federation just as individual sellers could have modified their account settings to add Canada as one of the countries they don't ship to. However, this could have been problematic since some commercial companies like UPS are still delivering to Canada.

EBay, just like the individual sellers could/can undo the settings once the strike is over. I feel for the Canadian buyers and seller not only on eBay but other ecommerce venues. The strike is bad enough but the timing over the holidays compounds the impact. I remember well the COVID impact on holiday shipping in 2020. I had several items ordered well ahead of the holiday and several were not actually delivered until February-March of the following year.

I sold an item 11/4 to Canada, using EIS.  Shipped on 11/5.  On 12/5 buyer filed  and INR claim.  I immediately heard from eBay that they were taking care of it and I didn’t need to do a thing.  IMO EIS is the only way to go these days.

Some people create a separate ebay account just for posting. You won't see any sales or purchases so the account won't have any feedback either.

you want to try being a buyer.  eBay doesn't give a **bleep** about us.  They are making me wait 3 months for a parcel and they held it in the 'hub' two days before the strike even started. They won't admit it and they won't refund my money either . I have nothing.

Strike started 11/15.....you said they had your item 2 days before......getting it in the mail stream even then wouldn't have gotten the item to you before the strike.  I'm sorry it happened to you, but neither Ebay or its sellers caused the problem, nor could they bypass it........

Shipment delay due to Canada strike

I have 2 shipments I haven't received and when I select more actions as an option I get a message about the Canada post strike as the reason. I live in the United states and my items are coming from the United States so why am I getting this message? Why won't eBay allow me to take any further action because of Canada? Does anyone know how to contact eBay directly about an issue or do I wait for this message to disappear? Thank you
