Not in any way directly related to eBay, but I bet I can get some good replies here anyway.
On Facebook, there is someone who wants to buy uncut, FF sewing patterns, doesn't care what kind, so evidently wants for reselling somewhere. Also on FB there are quite a few posters selling brand new patterns, so have to ask, is this a thing now? Just gave away a bunch to a local thrift, but have to confess that very few of them were uncut.

These patterns are being used for crafting projects such as covering jewelry, lampshades, ornaments. There is a whole list of good ideas on Pinterest and YouTube tutorials.

But for those applications, uncut wouldn't matter.

Sewing patterns are what I mainly sell on eBay. In my case, it’s the old “sell what you know about”. When I first began online selling back in the early years I had a huge collection of sewing patterns and fabrics so that is what I decided to sell. I’ve done well and have since added knitting and crochet patterns and yarn. There are actually a ton of sellers on eBay who sell these craft items. New, uncut items are the way to go though.

Yes, and I, in fact, have purchased vintage sewing patterns on eBay.
But I did not specify FF and uncut, did actually select patterns I was going to use.
And, if used for those crafting projects mentioned, why would they need to be FF, uncut?

I sell sewing patterns here on Ebay; what I have found is that newer patterns are very plentiful here; people usually don't buy the newer patterns unless they are uncut. The vintage patterns, harder to find, sell well as uncut but if it's a rarer pattern people will buy cut/used patterns if the pattern is checked and guaranteed to be complete with instructions.

@soh.maryl The individual on Facebook looking for uncut patterns of any kind in size is, almost certainly, as you have already concluded, buying for resale, possibly on eBay or a different venue. As others have noted, truly vintage patterns will often sell even though cut, however newer patterns generally do better if uncut. For reseller, one of the main reasons to buy uncut is simply the time factor, there is no need to check are all the pieces there etc. Just make sure it's either never been opened, or clearly the pattern is uncut. They are easy to ship, and easy to photograph, and there is a demand for a number of different patterns by different makers. So yes, this is a good resale item in general.

For craft projects I don’t think it matters since it is possible that the buyer just wants the envelope for their project. A buyer who is buying a sewing pattern to actually sew a garment or make a craft item will want an unused and uncut pattern unless it is out of print or hard to find.

The original reference to crafts was "crafting projects such as covering jewelry, lampshades, ornaments," which would just be sticking envelopes or pattern pieces onto other surfaces, so it wouldn't be necessary to have all of the pieces to actually make an item so "uncut" doesn't matter.

There are actually a ton of younger people out there who sew to make cosplays, and it's much easier to just buy a pattern that's similar to the piece of clothing you're trying to replicate and then modify it than it is to draft your own pattern. So there's definitely a market for sewing patterns, and most people prefer uncut if they're actually going to use them to make the piece of clothing in question.

Not sure I was clear in my post. This is someone who wants to buy just ANY sewing patterns, as long as they are still factory-folded and uncut. No specific sizes, styles, types or era. It seems fairly obvious that that this person's goal is to re-sell. Have seen more than one message on FB that's pretty much the same. And is wanting to buy in quantity because there would be a very low price per pattern.

Yes, but it wasn’t always like that. Up until about 10 or 12 years ago, certain designers were actually being collected (sort of like sneakers today, I guess) and collectors were paying big prices. I sold a few patterns for well over a hundred dollars, I remember. We used auctions for those. Now mainly BIN. I occasionally use auctions for really special hard to find cross-stitch kits these days.

Yes, but those young people would not be apt to buy 100 patterns, any size, any garment, sight unseen, in hopes of finding just one or two they could use.

Again (and I promise this will be my very last post), someone wanting certain designer patterns is probably NOT going to be buying a lot of at least 100 and specifying any size, any brand, any item as long as the pattern is factory folded and uncut.
