No easy way to type this so I'm going to just go for it. I need a historical expert to look at a specific item for me.

This item has been in my family from the time period of 1930 - present day. I no longer wish to have this item, but I think the historical value is worth something, and personally it would bring me great joy to know the money from this item would go to the education of my mixed children and benifit my interracial family. A sort of....poetic justice if you will......

I have an orginal KKK knife, passed thru generations of my family.

A historic atrocity I never wanted, it was left to me amongst other things, and the sight of it makes me sick.

If anyone  has any questions regarding the item you can private message me for pictures. I will not tarnish the Ebay site with it.

This is not a fantasy knife series, this is the real deal. Stamped with words I shall not list here, as to avoid upsetting whomever comes across this post.

Any help in regards to this item is greatly appreciated. I will state this agian the historical value is the only reason it has stayed with me as long as it has.

Hi, an item such as this is not allowed to be sold on eBay. Below is the policy governing restricted items. While there is undoubtedly a market for such an artifact, eBay would not be it.

You can't list it on ebay.

I know someone who had KKK items, he didn't want to sell them and make money,  so he donated the items to a museum..

It sounds like something that is making you totally sick. Just throw it in the garbage or the river and be done with it.

you can easily put an end to it,just toss it in the trash.if its such a touchy subject maybe you should save it for the grandkids, seriously,  just get rid of it if it makes you unhappy

some people  like to buy up slave items and destroy them, this falls into the same realm. If you were to sell it then you do not know who could end up with it,they may say they are a collector but maybe they belong to the Aryan Nation........you would not support them would you?

What help are you looking for? Reassurance that the "historical significance" of hate group memorabilia justifies cashing in on it?

It sounds like you don't want to list it on eBay- not that it's permitted- but you instead want to sell it to somebody through PMs on this forum? You're not allowed to advertise items for sale here or conduct off-eBay transactions which is what this would be.

Donate it to a museum.

While you are not allowed to display (much less sell) KKK items on eBay, it is possible that Oprah Winfrey may be interested in this item, for her personal collection of racist materials.  You'll have to do some vigorous Googling in order to find out how to contact her -- but it's worth a try, rather than simply dumping the knife, as others have suggested.

Good luck!

On the last visit my Dad did South,  bringing money to fund the voting rights movements,   they were stopped on the outside of a town.     They brought the money hidden in coloring books and books.    Men sneered and told them that they knew they were only upstanding righteous men,  helping to educate the minorities.       As a warning,   a KKK membership card and a a medal badge with KKK in good standing,  were placed on the dash board.

We found those medallions and got the story from the Priest that was with my Dad.

My brother wanted to donate them,  but the answer he got is that there is so much of this stuff out there,  they did not need anymore.

I come from a diverse family.    If you want to honor your diverse family,  throw it away and take away it's meaning and power by relegating it were it belongs.

Please ignore some of the comments that have been made in reply to you post, as it seems that the "pack mentality" has become prevalent sadly even upon forums such as here. There are a few sites that you could sell the knife to if you wanted, remember ebay is not the only site out there, so do as you will and what you think is best.
In regards to items such as that knife, And with things such as that, I have a German helmet and a Nazi medallion amongst my collection of ww1 items and ww2 items and all that I bought from a estate collector a long time ago. My father's side of my family was exterminated by Hitler. Even though it made my stomach turn, I needed to buy that Nazi ring, so that I may not forget what was done, for me, and as a reminder to myself, what that symbol stood for, and to know that my family, because of what happened to them, would never want me to avenge them, for God has already done that, and will do that with those in the future who live by hate, vengeance is not ours, but His. The very same thing my grandfather said to me upon the one time we spoke about everything that had happened. To forgive, for me, for them, so I would be able to live my life with peace, and not with anger and wrath. Evil cannot fight Evil and win. Only Love can accomplish such. Unfortunate that most people forget that.

My best of regards juddonnahoo-0, may peace be with you, always.

I would donate this knife to a museum willing to take it. I'm a history buff and I don't believe in destroying ANY historical artifacts whether they are a part of a dark history or not.
I have a German helmet on my shelf (and other Nazi artifacts). I have this to remind me that I might not be here if my grandpa never made it home. I also have some artifacts from my grandmother who served for the Polish Armed Forces. She had to flee Poland, was in a Russian labor camp, had to travel through Africa (her sister died along the way) and came back to Europe to fight for her country that she couldn't return to. Anyone could look at these artifacts and they'll just see it as a "Nazi item", but would never know the stories behind them unless I told them. I'll one day pass these items along to someone else along with the stories that go with them.

Yes OP,  please ignore some of the post suggesting you cash in on a hatred item. It belongs in the trash and nowhere else.

I'm on the fence on what to do.  My initial reaction was to trash it but there seems to be a lot of erasing history lately.  To be clear I absolutely don't condone what some of these statues, knifes, etc. represent.  That said, history is already fractured in its presentation.  How many of you learned about Juneteenth in school?  I know I didn't.

When I was in high school, I went to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with my language class.  The most memorable part of the trip was visiting the Auschwitz camp and museum.  Forty four years later and I still remember every moment.  So would it be right to level these places of horror and replace them with parking lots/shopping malls/whatevers to appease the current cancel culture we live in?  I'm sure you know the answer.

What is it they say about ignoring history?

Joe
