I'm in the state of Missouri and sold an item to a customer in Costa Rica. The shipment is going to a forwarder in Florida. Do I charge tax? If so, for which state?

eBay will determine if tax is to be paid by the delivery address provided by the buyer.eBay collects, and remits sales tax for states that require that tax to be paid.

You do not add/collect/remit sales tax to Florida.

I don't believe eBay is charging, collecting, or remitting sales tax for Missouri.  Yet.

You would only charge sales tax to buyers in your state provided you have a sales tax certificate and you've set up a tax table in the listing. The sales tax certificate issued to you would've explained how to collect and remit the tax.

Wouldn't make any difference as the Internet Sales Tax is based on BUYER location (FL) not seller location.

FWIW the only reshippers I've seen where ST isn't charged is stuff going through GSP in KY. Apparently they got an exemption.

The reshipper here in Oregon has seen a large increase in business... Apparently the one's in CA aren't doing as well....

The relatively recent implementation of eBay's collecting and remitting state sales tax for 39 states requires that the tax be collected based on the buyer's delivery location, not the seller's location.

Are you  registered to collect sales tax in the state of Florida, OP?

Florida has not enacted a marketplace facilitator law so, while the buyer may owe sales tax to the state of Florida, unless you are registered to collect it, it would be the buyer's responsibility to pay it directly.

Being a seller located in Florida I don't see how you think that our sales tax rates are high compared to many other states.  Depending upon the location within the state to where the item is delivered, the rates range from 6% to, I believe, as high as 8½%.  Of course, Florida does have the advantage of not having a state income tax.

I have a cousin that lives in California that seems to constantly complain about the taxes out there.  Of course, his complaints are not limited to the sales tax rates out there.

Of course, people that vacation here in Florida are usually hit by tourist taxes on things like motel rooms.  Sorry, but those coming to enjoy the sunshine state do have to pay a little more than us locals.  After all, much of the things built and maintained is for your benefit.
