Send Offer Needs Improvement

I get the distinct impression when I wend an anonymous offer it may go to a competitor and not a buyer.  I've already seen this anonymous we don't trust you with info offer system can go to a buyer who is blocked(too many strikes).  So I can't believe for 1 second Ebay is filtering things out.

How shall I define a competitor?    I'd keep things simple.  If the account doesn't buy, exclude them.  This will hurt sales?  If they're eligible to receive an offer they would have clicked your listing and nothing was stopping them from buying.  Sending offers gets to be a waste of time but sellers without many sales find this is the only way to sell IF they actually have something on their bait worth dealing with.  Don't say this can't be done.  This site already does crazy google like things with search results,  they can filter things and develop a more sophisticated offer system to maximize result and minimize negative effects on one's selling practice.

Everything we do effects how Ebay treats us.  Ultimately Ebay will reward us most if we drive traffic to a listing and get a sale with 1 click. If someone clicks and doesn't buy,  Ebay frowns upon us.  They will scowl if we get lots of clicks, watchers and no sales.  Sales conversion is very important.  It's really not fair to ignore competitors and act like they matter. Ebay gives us very little analytics and mostly rewards high volume amazon prime dropshippers who don't even live anywhere near amazon.  We sellers deserve better selling tools.  I mean the goal is sales right?  This is mutually beneficial,  right?  Well don't waste our time by misleading us.  I also think it can get way more sophisticated that just filtering out accounts that don't buy. It can also filter out accounts you yourself just clicked on when you made your ad.  Maybe you were copying some item specifics or getting a feel for price.  You under cut that seller and now he's checking you out which prompts the offer.  That just ruined my click thru rate/sell thru rate.  That's lint in my pocket,  not cash.

Oh I know, that's too complicated,  stop worrying about what others are doing blah blah.....no I am a can do person.  I do not believe anything is impossible. The system needs tweaking.  I'm not being paranoid, I'm being realistic. I also have a lot of experience selling and seeing how often times you are dealing with spam or nonsense not customers.  I find when I attract a real customer,  the sale happens fast.  I not only sense but see this offer system is mostly just competitors playing pong.  It's highly unlikely ebay will share that data with me but they don't have to.  They need to improve the offer system.  This is a marketplace not social media. As it stands right now the offer system is just trolling.  We can do better.

Send Offer Needs Improvement

I had a message from a buyer yesterday wanting free shipping, My item was $5.30.....after

shipping cost to me, the package I buy to ship ,cost of goods and eBay fees I would have

been in the hole. I didn't have the "make offer" turned on....this was in a message. Of course

I refused to offer free shipping,

Interesting, but you do know there are many eBayers who have more than one ID here, right?

Some of us have one for buying, one for selling and one for posting here.

If the account doesn't buy, exclude them.

That assumes they will never buy.............and I doubt ebay would ever assume that.

There is no way for eBay to define a competitor.  People can have multiple accounts so in some instances you would never know.

Even if we were only allowed one account, the functionality to sift through sometimes 10s of thousands of listings to see if an account sells something similar before sending an offer or allowing someone to be a watcher would implode the site that already has bandwidth issues just with a basic search for a customer trying to buy something.

Your comment about buying right away is also not indicative of what happens in real life. There are many cases where someone will watch something and buy it months later (sometimes years) when they have the funds, start their renovation, have their kid, lose weight etc.

But the algorithm should look at their activity and compare and contrast it to the seller's.  I think the possibilities are there.  I just doubt ebay is implementing them for fear they will lose sales as sellers do buy from other sellers.  I'm just talking about the anonymous send offer system though.  To me that's different.  That's wheeling and dealing.

What's stopping them from buying?  I just mean the offer system.  We sellers can't see who we're sending the offers to.  I want more quality offers that's all. We all get email marketing just looking at any item,  including competitor listings.  I'm of a mind set that poor sell thru rates are penalized.   I want to be rewarded with sales not filtered out of search results. I see what google does daily. That site and youtube in particular are criminal.  Ebay could help us all better is all I'm saying .

Years ago I bought a bunch of shoes for props I was making.  They were all size 5 women's.  I get into offers with competitors as a result trying to low ball significantly.  Shipping shoes is very expensive.  Strange though....you'd have to be quite unique to fit in a size 5 shoe. Your example of a message offer is something I think Ebay should filter out if they sent it through best offer.  I do not see why ebay can't factor in shipping.  Maybe their current tech team can't but there are people who can astound.  I have faith they exist,  hire em.

Stop sending offers. Problem solved.

As disgusted as you seem to be with eBay, judging by all your threads/posts, I'm surprised you still sell here.

Sending blind offers has never been fruitful for us.

E-Bay has it where a Seller can reply to a message inquiry with an offer.  Those are often fruitful.

Honestly not interested in bartering with customers.  Offers could go away in entirety and I would not be disappointed.  Offers are a very small percentage of our sales and there are better tools to attract Buyers.  ymmv

I never had much luck with sending out blind offers.

What I do is simply lower the item’s  price & I assume if you are watching my item, eBay will immediately tell you by email that fact plus all eBay members can see the lower price I am basically willing to accept.
