Selling

I've always been a buyer but decided to dip my hand on the selling side of things. After posting an item and getting a decent offer. I did all of the calculations on the fees and shipping and was shocked how very little profit I was getting. Needless to say I declined the offer, took down my posting and decided not to venture off into the selling side of things. Making money that way would require that you have thousands of listings and hundreds of sales daily. I felt bad for the buyer but at the same time didn't just want to give my item away either. Not really complaining just wasn't aware of what sellers of the things I buy aren't really making anything on each item they sell.. The reason why you have to have a huge inventory.

Re: Selling

You're right, it all depends on the item. However my item fell into a category where there wasn't a huge margin to begin with it's as I just previously stated a few minutes ago, I sold the item a few  hours after my first post on Offer Up.

I never once Said anything about how much eBay was taking from me. I just mentioned the profit that I was getting. I wasn't going to just give my item away.

When most sellers here receive an unsatisfactory offer, they politely decline and wait for a better offer.

But you took your listing down after declining the offer, so you have no idea what other offers you might have gotten.

Re: Selling

Good show! - Glad to see some people are smart enough to realize this company is taking WAY TOO MUCH of a share when YOU, the seller, has the commodity, does ALL the work, and takes ALL the risk in selling here - I commend your notion that the company should only receive a small percentage of every sale made here...

If they had spent more time focusing on long term growth, rather than the short term gain of squeezing their sellers to death over the years, they wouldn't need to demand such take rates...

And of course, they are now running out of control in their quest for 30% to 50% of an items selling price in fees with their "recommended" Promoted Listings rates... Just more ill-gotten, undeserved short term gain at the expense of long term growth in our most humble opinion...

You do not need to have a huge inventory to sell here. You just need to make smart choices about what to sell and how much to sell it for.

If selling on eBay was easy, everyone would be rich.

Looks like they made the smart choice by not selling it here - Keeping MORE money in their pocket, and not having to worry about the sale jumping through all the fiery hoops of buyer fraud over the next 6 months...

Again - COMMENDATIONS to this SMART and RESOURCEFUL Person!

Re: Selling

I love adages of life. The one that fits me, paraphrased for this situation, is "What's one seller's meat, can easily be another's poison." I use the platform to reach out to the world to liquidate goods I was unable to sell in my store.

Re: Selling

It seems like you and everybody else  didn't really read what I wrote. All that I stated was that after all the fees I wasn't going to make any money selling on that platform. Tell me, if I don't know how to play the "game" as you put it, why did I make almost $5000.00 in the last six weeks on offer up? Oh and I didn't have to pay any fees. Not only that but I got thirty dollars more for my item on that platform than my offer from the buyer on eBay. Sometimes buyers make the best sellers because a good buyer will do all the research on the item that they are buying and know the worth of that item. You really should read what people write before you make stupid comments.

Re: Selling

If you feel comfortable meeting people in person to exchange goods and cash, more power to you.

I've done that before but in today's world, no way.
