Selling on ebay

I've been a member for a long time and am connected to paypal for my transactions. I just listed a piece to sell and ebay wants my bank info. I checked with paypal and all seems to be in working order yet ebay wants me to give my bank info to tell them where to send my "payouts".  Sinse paypal is owned by ebay this information should already be available to them through paypal. I need a work around fix for this Delima. The "brain child" in the lower r corner is absolutely NO help at all and I have no way to get a live body on a phone. Damned frustrating at this point and I don't want to go somewhere else to sell my porcelain if I can fix this.

Re: Selling on ebay

You may have been a member for a long time, but it appears you haven't sold in a long time. To be paid to sell here now (since like 2018) you have to sign up for Managed Payments, including your bank info and SSN. It's all good.

Re: Selling on ebay

Your payment source must be directly with Ebay. Ebay and Paypal split years ago. For you to receive payouts you are required to give Ebay all information needed. Which is no big deal if you want to sell on Ebay. Please note though and this is important because you are new to selling you will be required to wait 30 days for payments to show in your bank account.  Also in order to talk to a customer service rep you need to go through the chat box and have a rep call you back. There is no need for that though cause everything is through the system which you can manually do yourself.

@oaklief

Ebay hasn't owned Pay Pal for a while now.

Ebay doesn't use Pay Pal to process payments anymore.

To be paid, you need to provide a checking account through a real bank and your SSN.

Have a great day.

Re: Selling on ebay

There is no work around. If you don’t want to provide the required info, you should end your listing asap.

Re: Selling on ebay

Paypal and ebay went their separate ways back in July 2015.        Since then a LOT of things have changed on ebay.     You maybe need to read up on all the changes so you don't run into any unpleasant surprises.

Your confusion arises because eBay distinguishes between using your account for BUYING versus using it for SELLING.

eBay still accepts PayPal as a payment source when you BUY something,  but eBay not longer accepts PayPal as a way to receive payments when you SELL something. eBay now manages payments for sellers, and you must provide a bank account for eBay to deposit your net funds into.

@oaklief:

   The only thing to "fix" is for you to get up-to-date on the changes. Obviously MANY years have gone by since you've sold here and haven't kept up with eBay's evolution.

1.  No one gets paid thru PayPal anymore. eBay hasn't "owned" PayPal for about 10 years now... that divorce happened a long time ago, and PayPal can be used only for purchasing things on eBay.

2.  Sellers now get paid thru eBay's Managed Payments system, which works out just fine for us after we get used to it

3.  The need to give eBay your banking/credit card, and SSN information is mostly no different than what was on file at PayPal, and is currently needed by law in order to sell on other online sites as well.

4.  There is no longer ANY phone number to call to get in touch with a real eBay CS agent who has the authority to correctly answer any questions or solve any problems. When an eBay CS Rep is needed, requesting thru eBay Chat for a real Agent to phone you, or using a social media connection to actual eBay CS, is the only way to move forward with any questions or problems needing an accurate solution. Other seasoned sellers here constantly post the authentic contact URLs for the real eBay CS. Also, you can often get a question answered or an accurate solution fairly quickly from the many knowledgeable oldtimers right here on this forum.

5.  Getting a phone number for eBay CS from a friend, or worse yet from the internet, is asking for circling the drain and going down a rathole. Such phone "agents" are either totally bogus, or scammers wanting your information for the dark web, or staffed by unintelligible foreign outsourced workers who will tell you anything you want to hear, quite often inaccurate, by reading from a script just to get you off the phone.

6.  Perhaps most importantly, you need to read eBay's Terms of Service and other Policies, and read thru at least a few hundred posts on this forum to get familiarized and more up-to-date with the changes that have happened, since your knowledge of the mechanics of selling on eBay are way outdated.

   Welcome back to selling. The water's warm, and things are essentially running quite smoothly for those of us who have accepted, adjusted, and adapted to the changes over the years. It's what makes alert and patient eBay sellers successful.

Cheers, Duffy

Re: Selling on ebay

As everyone has noted, you're in a more or less Rip Van Winkle situation.  It's a lot to take in, and very important that you read and understand all of ebay's policies.... It's good that you came here for advice, we see a fair number of long time members who got left without a chair when the music stopped because they were caught unaware.

Why would that be your reply to someone who's trying to help you? I don't get it.

Is the attitude in the room with us? There was no attitude in my reply, just facts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
