#1. Never list anything on eBay that you can't afford to lose.
#2. Make sure the money is in your account before you ship.
#3. Never deal with anyone that wants to contact you off of eBay.
And so on.

Take the item you want to sell, Look at the other listings on ebay to see what is happening with that item. Look at the items available for sale on eBay.
How much are they? How many are available? What are they selling for? Are they selling or not?
If you see one for $100.00 and 20 others for $25.00 and check the number of them that actually sold, how much did they bring? Then you can determine the real, true, value of your item.
You will quickly see that some things that are called "Rare" are not rare at all.
First move. Buy a few cheap things to get a feel for how eBay works.
As a new seller you have a big red target on your back.

Make sure that you are registered in the proper country, otherwise when it comes time to register for Managed Payments you will be discovered.

Learn to buy first. Buy small items you need and would be going to the store for anyway. Have you ever bought anything on eBay? Selling is buying spelled backwards. You learn by doing...
Do you need any silverware?

Excuse some of the replies. Honestly, selling is hard, people lie and cheat and items have to be perfect to sell. If it was between selling a getting a job-you would be better off with the job-it's easier.

I thought the 80-90 hours a week I spend doing eBay stuff was a job.
My mistake.

The IRS certainly considers my online sales a job.

I recommend you read and make sure to thoroughly understand the 3 following links if you have not already, at a minimum, before continuing on ebay:
ebay Money Back Guarantee
https://pages.ebay.com/ebay-money-back-guarantee/
Selling policies
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/selling-policies?id=4214
Managed payments

Additionally, if you have spare time, hanging around these forums and just reading topics randomly (along with the "Buying" forums), you can learn A LOT of information from the experienced buyers and sellers here who volunteer their time to help out those in need.
Wish you the best of luck!
