Selling items for friends

A friend wants me to sell a couple of items for them. How much to charge or split with them? Any help would be great. I have to do all the pictures, posts, packing and shipping.  And pay the IRS.

some advice please?

Is it really just a couple (2?) things? I might say 50/50.

Getting into a part time job selling for someone else is a different can of worms and I would be reluctant to go there.

Anything you sell for a friend you will be married to for 180 days from date item is paid for. Asking your friend for some money back 5 months after the fact kind of strains a friendship..

We would say 50/50 also.  Best regards

They pay ALL expenses - all listing fees, all Paypal fees, all postage, packing materials.  You keep 60% of the remaining funds for the effort you've put in and the friend gets paid 180 days after the item is delivered (not sold, delivered).  Alternatively to that last part, you have a signed legal contract that they are responsible for refunding if the item is returned for ANY reason.

Don't sell anything that will sell for less than $100.

And you do all the packing so you are sure the buyer is getting exactly what you sold to him.  Don't trust anyone else to do it.

In one word, DON'T.

Tell them to open their own account!

Selling items for friends

I sell things for friends, as a hobby, because I enjoy it. My rules are simple, I need to have the item in my possesion, I need to the one to ship it, and, I get $10 or 10% off the sale price whichever is bigger. The last one is negotiable for little kids and missionaries and anyone else who really needs every cent. I only sell things when the owner has a reasonable understanding of value and with a preset agreement as to when they will get paid. Granted, for me, this is a fun hobby and not my income, so my risk is quite low. Have yet to have any big issues or problems.

The quickest way to end a friendship is to go into business with your friend.

If these are sellable items and you can get them at a low enough price, just buy them outright from your friend and sell them yourself.   Check sold/completed listings vs live listings to see if there is a demand for the item, and research sold items to see what they are currently selling at.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

What if you pay $ 10 and they find out it sold for $ 50? No more friends.

I do not recommend selling items for a "friend". Have your friend open up their own ebay account.

I do the same.  My only firm rule is that I need to have the item in my possession/I handle all of the shipping, etc.  Everything else is negotiable based on the situation.  Like you, no problems yet.
