Hey guys,
so I've been wondering whether any of you guys have sold totally 2 different categories on your same eBay account for example : You are selling both Men's clothing and Musical Instruments
So is this a good thing to do, like does eBay lower our results and stuff .
We all know if we could sell different products it is more profitable so I m wondering about this.
Anyone here has done something similar
Please let me know
Thanks 😊 !

usually it isn't a problem unless you hit on certain groups and they have a knee reaction to other things you sell like for example if you are selling bibles, some of your followers might get upset if they see you list sex toys too.
you know how sensitive/soft people have gotten and so many companies had to change their names the last few years or change their mascot or team names.
anyways for normal stuff people don't care if you sell car parts or household widgets or clothes under the same id. ..
I have different accounts to separate my business's/ investments apart from personal items. Outside of ebay even my investments/adventures each have their own checking account. I like to see at a glance if one of my investment is going sour before it takes me with it.

Sell a product or products that you are interest in and that you know something about and the manufacturer. When I (one of those men from Mars) started selling my niche was preowned, authentic, high end pre own women's items at reasonable prices (yes I knew little about them but my wife helped me out - she is a True Blue Lone Star Lady and knows how to dance on the cornmeal and shoot). I sold hand bags, purses, shoes and some cow girl stuff (boots, hats belts/buckles, etc.)

It’s smart to see intelligence on action so this is a great example the original poster can use to see what works. Thanks!
I’m confused. You clicked my post as helpful and then you insult me.
The OP asked what seemed to be a legitimate question and I offered my own real world experience on specifically that subject in an effort to help. Something I, and many others, do on a regular basis.
I didn’t make anything up nor did I engage in any outrageous hyperbole. I offered a straightforward answer to the question. As, I note, did several other posters in essentially the same vein as mine.
So how does that make me/us a “community shill”? Experience has shown that there are a great many eBayers who populate these boards and offer knowledgeable advice to those seeking answers. We/they do it to help other eBayers. I suspect they would also find the term insulting.
I will admit to being a “shill” for laissez-faire capitalism (my eBay store being visual proof of that) and, specifically, Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand - something I have referenced in many of my posts. But even that is offered as advice and counsel to counter the Nattering Nabobs of Negativism who seem to also populate these boards.
I would really like to see an explanation as to how you arrived at that conclusion.

@richard1rst I don't think he insulted you, but rather distinguished you from we 'community shills' who are apparently all sizzle and no sausage. But their posts are such word salads that it's difficult to tell.

@fuzzface50 touched on the only time it's generally a good idea to separate into multiple accounts or stores & that's when one of your target audiences might be offended by the other audience. Such as selling childrens' toys & sexy lingerie.

Yes. This is common practice. It is also a good idea. Often when one category takes a down turn, another might uptick to offset. With the right mix, it can help stabilize your store revenue in troubled times.
On the other side of the coin, if you diversify into all high risk goods (electronics, auto parts, and even clothing to an extent), it can be a nightmare.
I specialize in "collectibles" but that can be housewares, clothing, records, toys, video games, antiques, tools, sneakers, etc. People "collect" everything, so unless you specialize in one collectible, a collectibles store will be all over different categories.

I don't think they were calling you a shill. I think they were saying you have a store and evidence to back up what you are saying, while these other community shills over there just talk a big game, but don't actually have a successful store to back up their talk.
ie. "Richard has a good account to study. Community Shills just talk a big game."
I think just a poor choice of words (opening with most or other infers you are in that group).

Hey! I sold my soul to the company store...oh...wait...

That’s exactly what I meant, but I still consider most shills in the community as I see teams going up against users with a corporate entitlement attitude.
I thought their store was a good example in relation to what the OP was asking about, it was just an opinion even if it is poor phrasing or I’m insulted as typing a “word salad,” I clearly gave a compliment and an opinion. Didn’t mean to hurt their community feelings, just glad to see the OP got some real answers beside the average shilly ones without results.
