Selling Everything

I have new and used items to sell. These are items from a 15-playhouse project. We have new and used items. We have tools, slides, ladders, railing, paint, computers, saws, hammers, pink safety equipment, and a bunch of stuff.  It's all in a Pod and we need to get rid of this stuff. We would like to sell everything at one time instead of one item at a time.  What is the best way to do this? I have been reaching out to liquidation places to see if I can sell them the items. Any other recommendations?

List with local pickup and sell to a reseller. Maybe see if there are local designers, contractors or landscapers that would be interested in a bulk purchase. This is outdoor playhouse equipment?

First, before you can sell anything you must register as a seller.   EBAY has very low "selling limits" on all new Sellers and put a 30-day "hold on your money".   After 30-days if made a few sales to prove yourself...you can ask EBAY to increase your selling limits.

You must give EBAY your checking account# and social security# (for tax purposes).   NAME on your checking account, social security card and EBAY profile page must be EXACT MATCH (or your application may be denied).   Legal name (no nicknames allowed).  EBAY will report your sales to IRS.

EBAY deducts (selling fees + shipping) and balance is deposited directly into your checking account 3-5 days AFTER the sale is made.    EBAY charges "selling fees" on entire amount (purchase price + shipping + sales tax) plus 30 cent handling fee.   EBAY also charges "monthly listing fees" and "international fees" and "promotion fees".   Suggest you go EBAY help and read policy about fees.

Whether you decide to sell items individually or as a lot (will be determined by whether items have a small enough to be packaged up).   If you try to sell as a "lot" (would be better list as PICKUP ONLY).   Also, you must keep the customer in mind...would they want to purchase a lot of "random items".

Experience has shown me that you cannot make any profit selling items under $25 (you could "group similar items" together).   Selling on EBAY is "not easy" the competition is brutal (some things easy quickly and some never sell).

EBAY 30-day Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns") allows customers to lie and get refund by claiming "not as described, counterfeit, defective, missing parts" (you will be forced to refund (purchase price + shipping BOTH ways).   Customer is NOT required to prove their claims.  EBAY always rules in favor of the customer.

Customers also have option to get "payment reversed" 6-months after sale (by contacting their credit card company).   Fortunately, most customers are honest and don't do this.

As a new seller, best advise I can give you is to "under estimate and over deliver".    You need to point out every "flaw, scratch, signs of wear in your item" (otherwise customers will claim "not as described" and get a refund.

You have two ways to sell as "buy it now" (requires immediate payment) or "auction" (many people bid and never pay).   Auctions are great if you have "one of a kind" rare item that the whole world is searching for.  Personally, I prefer the "buy it now" option because auctions have a narrow time limit (assuming customer will snap your item up).

Also be aware their are scammers on EBAY and other online platforms.   EBAY will NOT protect you if you get scammed.   Never sell more than you can afford to lose.

You should advertise locally. On FB or CL.  Local pick up. eBay may not be the place to sell furniture, etc.  The shipping costs would be outrageous.  There are other venues that can be helpful.  Check them out.

If you want to get rid of everything at one time, you might try Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.  Decide on a price you want for everything and advertise that it is the entire contents of a POD container and that everything goes for one price and will not be pieced out.  This will keep people from trying to cherry-pick the better items.

If you do that, you would need to have ground rules in place and it wouldn't hurt to have this in writing so that it could be signed and dated.  This would be such as cash only in advance of them loading anything.  (I say this because if you let them load everything before paying you, they could either drive off without paying, or they could start arguing about having paid too much because after loading and seeing things more closely, they decided it wasn't worth the price agreed on so you should accept less; this happened to a man we know.)  If the POD is full and will take a while to move everything, you would need to state how long they have to remove the stuff and don't let it drag out.

However you handle it, good luck to you.

Do you have a dumpster near by?  If you do use it or list it for sale here on ebay.  Or donate it, or have a yard sale or advertise the items locally on craigs list.   You have so many options.

Lots of building supplies? Habitat for Humanity. Take a tax deduction.

You're reaching for the stars.  If you expect to make any money you will have to put work into the project.

Yeah, we've donated lots of stuff to the Habitat ReStore. Great cause.
