Sellers get prepared for big payout in the next few weeks

The way I see it, these news-breaking delays in the USPS not delivering packages on time is going to cost us sellers big time in the next few weeks.  Sellers will be held responsible for these delays and forced to refund buyers that do not receive their items on time.  Buyers will get their money back, they will probably eventually get their items, sellers will pay for all these delays directly.  Sellers are about to be forced to refund any sales made in the last month that have not yet been delivered.  Is this right?

It will be completely right for some sellers, only partially correct for some sellers, and completely wrong for some sellers. That is what inevitably happens when you make a sweeping judgement about what will happen to millions of people.

A "payout" is eBay's terminology for when Managed Payments deposits money in your bank account. So when I read your title, I thought you were going to say something completely different - that all the holds would be released as packages are delivered, and sellers would get a big deposit 🙂

I have not has an INR filed in a while.all of my packages seem to be going thru.as far as having to refund your customers what is the big deal.I am sure you could handle 10 INR without batting an eye.I know I could.

I do not see any crisis.I ship 40 packages a week and if I had to refund for 10 of them in december the world woud not collapse..I must have the best customers becasue they refuse to ask me whats going on.

Oh, I'm sure some sellers will get a 'big deposit' ..... but of what?

I've shipped 600+ packages since mid-November.   TWO customers out of those 600 have filed an INR.  Perhaps I've been lucky, perhaps I know a couple 'secrets'.   ( Always use SCAN form being biggest tip )

One was Delivered before I had to refund.

2nd, I refunded just for the sheer entertainment purposes the USPS brought me.  A package for a customer in California:  We saw it sit in Seattle for a week, back to Detroit MI for a week, and when it finally ended up in Costa Rica... yeah, I'll send a refund.    Although it's funny, the customer did eventually still get their package.

So TL;DR:  No, I personally do not fear what you are suggesting for 'impending doom for all of sellers'.

I 100% got what the poster was saying, maybe a bit over the top but was easy to understand. Yes, I agree with the poster there will be a big PAYOUT to buyers soon. It's just a word, geez, give um a break...

A sweeping judgement comment is a sweeping comment by you....

They started their comment....the way I see it. That's their opinion.

Your interpretation of their comments seem sweeping(as you put it) trying to suppress their opinion....in MY opinion.

I must say that 600+ mailings in such a short time frame is impressive.  So I checked your Lego inventory and must say the Spiders are the best!  I can now say I have no memory of 2020 due to the sheer terror brought on by the march of the BLS.  That would be the 'Black Lego Spiders'.  :-0

I too have sold hundreds of items on ebay and elsewhere recently without any delays or scan problems.  I also just opened up select listings to economy shipping which means without tracking.  Two sales thus far with $1.00 economy mailing because the tracking more than doubles the price of low cost items.  So far so good but regular mail with a stamp is taking about seven days.  I know there is a baseball or sports card program rolling out so that $1.00 shipping will include tracking.  Getting way of topic here but I hope ebay can expand that type of program into other product areas, especially matchbook covers.

Please keep those spiders contained while they are waiting to explore the world.

It all seems much worse then it actually is the reason its so widespread is almost everyone is experiencing some sort of issue so reports are coming in from all over but alot of people are acting like its every package out there. Probably most have never had to deal with a INR or just not use to more then 1 at a time. We ship 100+ packages a day during the holiday season and have been dealing with an average of 2-4 INR coming in a day 99% of buyers ahve been awesome and understand whats going on and are waiting we offer free returns so I let them know if they get thier item and no longer need or want we are happy to pay the return shipping. And so far I have refunded 1 INR and the item is still out there somewhere probably will arrive in a month or so. But the flipside is BIGGEST holiday season ever biggest profits ever with that comes some losses thats business.

It's already happening.  USPS has cost me hundreds since the summer in lost and delayed packages and now I'm about to lose my top rated status over it.  I switched to Fed EX and UPS for most shipping and that's helped, but there are times when it's impractical (think $15 to ship a 2 ounce $10 item with free shipping).  My next step is to suspend all my listings of small things that typically ship first class.

I'm winding down my parts sales anyway, I make more in a few days flipping a classic car than I do in 3 months here.

I got it too.

The smiley face following my statement indicates it was a joke.

Apologies if you misunderstood that.

trying to suppress their opinion.

Seriously?

You think that me pointing out that some sellers might have a different experience is "suppressing his opinion"?

I am doing mostly all UPS as well. I put my handling time on USPS 1st Class Package at 15 days which gives about 20 days for delivery if I decide to ship any that way.  I am thinking of upping the handling time on USPS 1st Class to 20 days......

I have handling on anything I ship UPS Ground at 2 days and every shipment is making it before estimated delivery dates. Though I ship same or next day. Anything I have listed as USPS Priority is being shipped UPS Ground.

You can update your handling time to 20 or 30 days and the initial estimated delivery date will be almost a month away,  until your package is scanned by USPS and ebay will update the EDD to much less than that.  The buyer can file an INR claim based on the updated date, that is  1 day after the last EDD shown to buyer.

I just ended all my listings and closed my store after 22 years on eBay.

I purchased an item last Monday from NY shipping to TX and eb's initial delivery date was estimated at 12/21.  It was scanned in NY today and 2 days ago eb extended the EDD to 12/23.  That is the first time I have seen eb extend a EDD while stll in the seller's home state.  That would delay the buyers (me) opportunity to file an INR.  That is welcome from eb and I hope a sign of thing to come.  Hopefully that will help to releive some stress from sellers that worry about late packages.

Went to "time away" earlier this month to lower our INR chances.

At this time we are down to about 8% of the our shipments still stalling at the "regional facility" scan.  USPS shows the "non-scan" event code of "in transit" on them, but eBay has not updated to that. It (in transit) probably does not count for the "extended seller protection" rolled out by eBay anyway.

Buyers have been extremely patient so far.
