Sold a fishing reel, it was missing a side cap that just keeps grit out the threads if you want to change handle sides. It doesn't do anything else then that, doesn't affect the use of the reel, cast and reels fine, neither water or sand can get to the gears because it not connected to that compartment.
I have very clear picture of that side missing the cap BUT since I did not "write" it in the description, I have to accept the return as defective. Sold hundreds of reels with out the caps, never a complaint. After a lengthy debate with a very nice rep who understood, quoted ebay policy is pictures are not considered part of the description.
So make sure you note every little defect or the buyer can send it back even if clearly shown in the pictures

I'm sorry..
One of the best tips I ever read on the eBay boards was:
Post photos as if there is no description, Describe as if there are no photos.
Sadly it's possible that even if you had written it in the description, in bold text, buyer could file an INAD and/or request a refund.
Really sorry..

Absolutely! You need to write that description as if you are talking to 3rd graders. I have learned to much what to say and not to say from buyers like this. Just one will make you change how how you do it.
I once sold something that needed repaired and I put in my description "easy fix". The buyer messaged me and let me know that he had been working on it all day and it still isn't fixed. So, I never said that again!

the odds of you winning a item not as described case no mater what you (SELLER) do is very very low.

I saw that when I did a board search, diff. good advice, had another return over a year ago because buyer thought it had more scratches then what he could see on pictures. Just have to say its that 2% we have to deal with.

ouch, I sell reels for parts, I stop writing in "may or may not be fixed" but good for parts lol

Yea, even the rep, surprising from USA, did not like the answer she gave,"recorded" she reminded me lol

Your mistake but at least you are learning. When yo sell an item that has problems it is a MUST that you tell the buyer so they know about those problems. Never rely on pictures only.

If I were a buyer and discovered that there was a defect in the picture that you did not describe in your description, I'd be apt to think that it was done purposefully.

Anything can be a 'forced' return, whether you take correct pictures or have correct complete descriptions...or not.
Even if pic match description and visa versa; return can still become a forced refund. 30 Day MBG.

You brought up a good point. Over the years I have bought several items that was exactly like you described. Sellers thinking they can get over on you and you won't notice. This was before the money back guarantee and I was stuck with the item.

How could it be considered purposefully, it wasn't a little cover, probably an inch round and a full picture of that side, wasn't hidden. Same idea could be applied to a camera, if you list a camera that has no lens cover, according to the buyer it would be considered parts if you don't say missing lens cap

Yea, I've sold hundreds of reels without the cap in the last 15 yrs, 1st time its ever been brought up. I did have one other return request years ago because a fishing lure was missing a hook. Was clearly shown in pictures but now put in description for the simple minded.
