Sellers beware, PICTURES are not consider any part of the description

Sold a fishing reel, it was missing a side cap that just keeps grit out the threads if you want to change handle sides. It doesn't do anything else then that, doesn't affect the use of the reel, cast and reels fine, neither water or sand can get to the gears because it not connected to that compartment.

I have very clear picture of that side missing the cap BUT since I did not "write" it in the description, I have to accept the return as defective. Sold hundreds of reels with out the caps, never a complaint. After a lengthy debate with a very nice rep who understood, quoted ebay policy is pictures are not considered part of the description.

So make sure you note every little defect or the buyer can send it back even if clearly shown in the pictures

Basic 101:  If people are going to sell stuff with parts missing they need to be clear about it in the description and not force shoppers to play Where's Waldo with photos.

You may think the missing cap is not importannt, but you buyer is not required to agree with you.

IMHO it is common sense that something as important as a missing part should be mentioned in the text of a listing.

Remember, half the buyers on eBay have below-average intelligence. Listing descriptions need to take that into account.

When I sell something, I always assume a return will be opened.  With the old Paypal system, I wouldn't touch the money for a few weeks (Its a reason MP doesnt bother me much, I did that anyways).

The way buying works, is a buyer can get his money back if he really wants to.  They have the choice of eMBG, Paypal buyer protections and their credit card directly.  Also, if a buyer chooses the last option and does a chargeback successfully, that actually damages eBay as a company...  So I imagine they will likely want to side with a buyer in any situation.

Re: Sellers beware, PICTURES are not consider any part of the description

Well I don't know why so many sellers on here are insulted. I guess the real question of me how would you like it if you were purchasing something and felt misled. Let's be honest, the reason people want to use photos only as a description is because they don't want to Hinder them making a sale. Is it not accept returns on top of that is ridiculous. This is just dishonest practicing. We all know photos can be manipulated not only that they can be taken in in certain kind of lighting which won't show the defect and to leave it up to a buyer to ask questions before buying is stupid you're selling it you need to be upfront and honest about what the item looks like it's the color it's flaws it's good things everything just as if the person was standing in front of you and couldn't examine it the same way. Unfortunately they're not there to see it up close, so it's your responsibility as a seller to make clear everything about the item and not leave it up to the buyer. I've only sold one item here on eBay but I'm very honest with my posting. If you have nothing to hide then why not describe it.
