Sellers automatically enrolling buyers into their "email" list

I'm curious how people feel about this pratice in general? I mean even as recently as a year ago I cannot remember a seller ever doing this to me, and I buy on ebay a lot. However lately it seems this has almost become the norm now.

I'm about at the point where any seller who automatically adds me to their "subscription" service to spam me to buy other products from them is going to get a negative every single time for it... perhaps that seems overly harsh and bitter but I am really sick of the unsolicited messages cluttering up my inbox.

I don't really care for that.  And you are right, I have noticed it more lately.

I would not and have not negged over this, but I have sent a polite but firm message, stating that this is against Ebay spam policy, the buyer has to have requested to be put on your mailing list.  Many don't know about or understand what the policy is or how it works.

While many do know and understand the rule, there are others that may flout it deliberately, too.

I've noticed it more from actual businesses that have their own web sites and yes they go into my Spam folder. What I hate even more is the sellers asking me for feedback as soon as they know the package has been delivered. I've written many of these sellers and have told them that many buyers object to this - received a nice TY letter back with an I'll tell our dept - and then when I purchase the same item from them 2 months later - again get the please leave feedback email. They also go into my Spam folder.

I usually leave feedback right away - but if I'm not opening the item for a week or two - cartridge ink or something similar - they'll get feedback as soon as I can test it out and don't see a problem with it.

This is why I'm opposed to PP including email addresses at all.  There is no valid reason for them to do that.

Just mark it as spam and move on.

I understand what you are all saying, and respect your opinions.

But in truth, what other way do we have to fight back besides leaving a neg? As someone said they tried sending an email which received a polite reply but nothing was done about it.

I do take feedback seriously even though it really doesn't need to be anymore, I still think people do value it in a certain special way here though as a bit of a sacred thing.

Not that I think it should ever be used as leverage, for example I didn't say "if you don't take me off your list right now I'll leave you a neg!" or something like that.

Rather let them know I am displeased about being on their list and depending on their reply and subsequent follow up spam from them, then leave a neg.

jonathan - one of those sellers that I sent that nice email to - blocked me - so if you enjoy buying from this seller - whether it be their low prices, service or quality merchandise - don't leave a neg.

This seems like a good reason to send a polite request for removal from the list, BEFORE leaving feedback.

And without mentioning feedback.

Remember FB has no effect on a seller's account, although it may help a future customer decide not to deal with them.

Experienced sellers tell newbies they should NEVER ask for FB. It will not end well.

Hate it so much I take the time to call and report them to eBay for violating policy.

Leaving a neg is petty, and savvy sellers will bug the heck out of cs and eventually get it removed.

Just block the spam and move on.
