Sellers Need To Beware Of Scammy Buyers

Please listen if you are an honest seller who is just wanting to dabble in selling.  This is a NEW age and time....if you think you are smart and savvy, you have a lot to learn.  You can't begin to realize the buyers who are plain out to get YOU.  They are street smart, they will come up with crazy scenarios to discredit you and your best efforts.   Think a long time before listing things of value that hungry, sleazy buyers are ready to pounce on.  I have been wronged and taken with no support from eBay as a seller.  I don't want you to experience the same injustice.

The only comment I can make is;

This is NOT a new age/time- there have been scammy buyers in this world for the 40+ years I worked with 'the public'.

     Most experienced sellers are quite familiar with the risks associated with selling on not only eBay, but any ecommerce platform. They are aware when and where eBay will protect the seller and when they will not. Generally those that get burned are the new sellers who have failed to read and fully understand the money back guarantee, the seller protections along with other eBay policies. They generally list some high dollar, high target item for the scammers to go after and ultimately get burned.

     I only see one item you have sold recently and it certainly fits into that category but you did not provide a lot of information regarding the "injustice" so not much to offer. However, I can almost guess what happened.

I've been here since 2012 and no way I would list anything of value.

You want to come back and let us know how you were wronged?

Have a great day.

Ken, good advice not selling valuables.  Unscrupulous antique dealers out to get the good stuff for free.  And the little guy pays all the extra fees to keep their scam alive.  Thx for listening.

OK...thx much.  Shipped a five piece sterling silver tea set.  I wrapped it the best I knew how, each piece bubble wrapped, taped, and then wrapped again in packing paper.  Air pillows stuffed in large heavy duty shipping box.  I paid 100.00 to ship and just charged 25 like a jerk.  (First dumb mistake).  So buyer claims bashed box, opened and dented and missing one item.  How nice????  Anyway, I don't believe them and believe they want to sell the 'missing' bowl as they are antique dealers who buy and sell.  So I get stuck being the bad guy, taking the damaged set back (it was in near mint condition) and paying for their shipping.  I honestly think this was a ruse to get a free sterling silver bowl and cause me a huge headache along with a return of damaged goods.  Just sad.  I was only trying to realize a few extra bucks to supplement my social security.  Thx for listening.  eBay just has policies that don't take situations like this into account.  It's the little idiosyncracies that are just not heard or addressed.

@debappl34 all well understood but look at it from the OTHER side, which there are MANY buyers that come here with the same story.

I bought

It was ruined

I had to send it back

I had to 'wait' for my money

Seller took 50% because they said it was now 'less than' etc etc.

Anything 'high end' should be sold in person cash in hand. All 'sites' have ways for one side or the other to 'get' each other.

@stainlessenginecovers

Yes, it's true that scammers have been operating since way before the silk road.

I do feel this is a new age/time, though, inasmuch as the advent of online sales brought novel opportunities for scams on both sides of the transaction.

@debappl34

I don't know the details, but I'm sorry this has happened to you, esp. on such a high value item.  New sellers are targets for scams on high value items. Start out by selling low value items.
