Sellers CAN Opt Out of the Auto-Pay if Offer is accepted feature. Here is how!

I found out how, as a Seller, you can opt out of the "Auto-Pay" if offer is accepted feature.

It is on the Buyer Management page
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

Scroll down to the bottom and there is a section:
Buyer Payment Requirements

There is a checkbox for:
Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

Mine was checked, which must have been the default when the added the check box.

I unchecked it, then click submit to save the change.

No more Auto-Pay if accepted from my 2nd account when trying to make an offer on one of my items.

So at least now Sellers, if they want to, can Opt-Out.  The crazy thing is nobody at eBay Customer Support knows how to Opt-Out.  I asked at least a dozen different CSRs.

I Hope You're Having A Fantastic Holiday Season!
Sincerely,

Thanks for that info. I was happy to opt out of that ill-advised program.

I don't understand why ebay couldn't have solved the offer issue by simply making the accepted offer automatically generate a coupon code that the buyer could use to BIN at the agreed price - leaving the item available for sale until payment is made. (It look me like 20 seconds to think of that.)

CrazyStuff4Sale, was your "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer." also active when you looked at it?

Just curious.

Yes, it was checked on both my accounts so I un checked it.

BTW we were mis informed by ebay reps. They said it was a BETA type program being activated only for some buyers. That obviously was not true!

You just reminded me to check my 2nd account.  Yep, it was turned on there to.  Funny thing is, I've never sold a single thing on my 2nd account.  So eBay has added it to every account, not just seller accounts.

I still find it very frustrating the eBay did this without any notification to eBay users at all.  Talking about it is one thing, but to roll it out without any notification!

Yes it was..........

If you click on the i   it says:  Removing this requirement may lead to more unpaid items. Setting will apply to future offers. Currently, this impacts only a select group of buyers.

@imapaqrat My memory isn't the best, but I thought when ebay first discussed this, they did mention that it would be opt out for sellers.....if you want it, you don't need to do anything. Right now it's in beta, and only some buyers are being impacted by it. And I believe ebay is aware that sellers would like to see the beta revised to incorporate a way for buyers and sellers to deal with buyers who want to make multiple purchases over time.

Very, very few of my buyers buy multiples from me, so I'm happy to be opted in to this beta program.

I look at it this way.

Its no secret why eBay went to managed payments they

want the money from processing the payments

On an unpaid item eBay makes no money.

And the buyer is usually someone you are better off not dealing with anyway.

Now you will get paid but the deadbeats will just request to cancel the order

instead with no unpaid item strike. or do a SNAD return or, a charge back.

eBay makes money you loose money.

How many times have you come to the boards and the seller is asking how to

handle a cancel request that the buyer has already paid for?

It might help a few sellers here and there but overall eBay is going to make a

butt load of money coming out of the sellers pocket with no sale to show for it.

Not to mention all the issues with combined shipping and angry buyers

wondering why you haven't shipped yet, after all you required me to pay

you immediately.

I can see too many problems with that from the POV of logistics.  The item needs to be simply still available for sale until the buyer hits the pay button in the offer acceptance.  That's how the other sites (with haggling) do it.  No other moving parts.  eBay also needs a bundling feature - buyers can make a bundle and offer on it, though this site is so complicated that might just lead to yet more complications.

It should be as simple as "The seller has agreed to your offer price. Click here to pay before someone else buys it."

Of course ebay chose to go a different way.

just don't add the offer feature...worst feature on ebay IMO anyways.

LOL.

Says you. Half of my sales come from offers. The WORST feature is not making buyers pay within a VERY short period of time from an accepted offer.

I'm ok with buyers having a button to click to make offers on multiple items and not being forced to pay immediately, so shipping can be combined. Giving buyers more than a hour or two after an offer is accepted is nuts. I get too many people that want to wait 1-3 days before they pay. Every person that messes around taking more than 24 hours to pay me, goes on the blocked list. This wouldn't be an issue if they had to pay.

Right now, it's the best way to handle slow and non payers. I have not got one sale yet from someone in this beta program. I wish eBay would speed it up. Delays in payment screw up my shipping system and cause me to have to watch over unpaid items. I have better things to do then babysit unpaid items.

There are some that are ok with waiting until the buyer feels like paying. That's fine for them. Most of us want the sale completed quickly. Crap or get off the pot! When my items are tied up waiting for payment, I am losing opportunities to sell it to someone willing to pay. There are too many buyers that treat offers like lay-a-way.
