Seller wants to return something that's not missing a part

First of all, I've got to find where you can say you'll only accept bids from established buyers.  I'm not a regular seller, but listed 20 items last week.  Most of them, no problem.  Two buyers, one with a FB of 1 and the other with a FB of 2, still have not paid (Monday I'll closed their sales and report it for my FVF refund).  Meanwhile, the 3rd buyer - the one with 0 feedback...

I'm selling off my cricut cartridges.  The Easter cartridge (being this time of year) had a small bidding war, and it got a decent price.  Buyer had to be prompted to pay, but did so after the prompt, and because I'm an idiot who leaves buyer feedback immediately after they pay, I left an exciting message about being this buyer's first feedback.  Yadda yadda yadda.

So, I ship the cartridge.  All is fine - I can see that they received it via tracking.

She opens up a return case stating, "The spiral instruction Easter 2010 book was not included with the order. I received the cartridge but not the valuable instruction book. The description says the item is in perfect condition. Missing parts is not perfect condition. How do I get the booklet or my money back? "

Only problem there?  That was the point in time when Cricut quit making spiral-bound booklets, and inserted hard design cards instead, which WAS included in the package.  I replied to her return request with this information, stated it was complete, but I needed to let her know if she wanted to continue the return.

2 days, and I haven't heard back from her.  What ticks me off is that, with a timely cartridge like this, the buyer may be using it to do her Easter crafting before considering whether to return.

So, my question - at what point can I reply to her that the return window is closed, and I will not accept it?  At that point, do I need to bring eBay in on it, backing myself up with the fact that there was nothing missing from the box?  And am I going to get my first neg feedback now from a newbie?

Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

Maybe your last response that book was replaced by hard card satisfied her.

Answer it - return for refund.  Then wait.

She has 5 days to send it back.  If nothing comes back it will close.  If she sends it back you have to refund.

As far as her leaving a negative - just follow up with a professional response - for this model manufacturer replaced instruction book with hard card.

Also for your other listings if there has been a change - maybe mention it in your description to give potential buyers a heads up.

The only problem there is that I really don't want to refund - it was a perfectly good sale, and she got a great price - by this weekend, that item will no longer have any value to sell until this time again next year.  Meanwhile, she's had time to get her use out of it.

I guess I'm just frustrated.

There used to be a place where you could put an option for "No returns" (obviously this is negated for damaged items, etc.).  Does that preference still exist?

Yes, you can list with no returns.

But do know buyers lie.  They just file SNAD, and you have to pay return shipping as well.

But since you have not heard from her maybe she is satisfied with the response.

But do answer the return request - return for refund.  So it does not close by itself where she keeps the item and gets refunded.

And do not refund until you get your item back.

OK, I got lucky - Buyer replied to my response about the fact that what she thought was missing did not exist, and said that she does not want to return it - and that she was very happy with it - just didn't understand.

BUT, she has not removed the Return request.  I replied to her, thanking her for her response, and asked her if she could make sure to remove that request, so that my PayPal would free up.

If she does not remove the request, what do I do?  The deadline eBay gave me for handing the return was the 14th.  At that point, if the reqeust is still open, will they pull the money out of my PayPal, even though she has stated she doesn't want to return it?

Just a piece of advice, listing used items with stock photos is never a good idea. Take photos of the actual items and list that way

What do you mean by "established"? You cannot prevent 0 feedback buyers from bidding or buying.

And am I going to get my first neg feedback now from a newbie?

That not something we cannot possible answer.

You can't, but you block bidders with 2 or more non-payment strikes under Account/Site Preferences?/Buyer Requirements.

If you do not want to accept the return with a refund then don't.  eBay gives you the option to decline returns and MBG claims.  The buyer will still be able to escalate the claim to eBay which lets them make a decision on behalf of you and the buyer.  Whatever they decide will stick, but in these instances they usualy decide in buyers favor.

So, if I don't respond to the return request, eBay won't automatically pull the money out of my PayPal?

You absolutely must respond to the return request.

You can either deny it or allow it but you must respond or it will count against you as a case without seller resolution.

The money will be refunded back your buyer when eBay make a determination on the case.  If you do not want to respond, and the buyer escalates the case, both you and the buyer have given eBay the right to make a decision on your behalf.

I am not sure if the case will auto trigger a refund based on time elapsed or not?  I have never let one go that far?  It is possible that if the buyer does not escalate the case it will time out after 30 days, but I just handle them ASAP.

I would advice you do the same. but it is totally your call.
