Seller tips?

Hi, I think it's been around a couple of months that I've been selling here and there on ebay.

I had a minor situation from a buyer refusing to pay for shipping and not reciprocating communication. It turned into a case that ebay sided with me on.

I noticed more that profiles with zero (0) feedback would be the ones doing these types of situations. Why do some profiles tend to purchase your item and then not pay and communicate? I usually wait 3 days for any kind of response and then cancel.

Aside from this, I was reading other discussion posts and immediate payment was mentioned.

Are there any tips you guys might have to sort of avoid this situation? Technical and personal?
I know that I'm a newer seller, but I don't think behavior/ tendencies like this are really justified (post messaging them and waiting after a certain amount of time).

Is it a glitch with ebay, are the users just playing around?

If you guys have any tips on how to avoid situations like this, I'd really appreciate it if you'd let me, and possibly others who read this know.

Future thanks!

Re: Seller tips?

Thanks for the replies so far.

So far, I've done the Buyer Management feature for unpaid strikes.
Still looking into the ebay format/ interface to get the immediate payment feature.

I get how bad it could be for ebay for blocking those with zero reputation, but is there a way that ebay blocks multiple accounts or something? I just noticed that the users who don't pay are the zero to one reputation ones.

I'll be heading out so I can't message back quickly, but I'll read the replies more later, thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Seller tips?

You should be able to edit the listing so that the time frame or views are not affected.  Edit listing and look for that area that I showed you...if you cannot find it, I am going to try and call someone else in who is awesome with techincal issues to see if he can give you some advise in finding this immediate payment required feature on the mobile app.

Re: Seller tips?

So it wouldn't be like, rude to do this right?

@theyouthculture

It would be like policy  to do this. The deadbeat is being rude. You'd be following procedure. Good luck.

Re: Seller tips?

FYI: You can’t use media mail for trading cards.

You can use eBay standard envelope or 1st class mail.

Info on Immediate payments.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

Re: Seller tips?

The first thing you might want to do is reshoot your photos.  The flash reflecting back in the center of the cards you are selling is less than stellar, almost amateurish.   I think you could set up some side lights, one on each side and turn off the flash and test some shots to see major improvement.   You have a pattern of glaring flash reflections that need improvement.

The advice to file an unpaid item case is the best approach.  I have used it for ten years with a good 80% or more success rate in getting paid.  Always be positive and concerned for the buyers well-being.  Sometimes people do fall or have family emergencies and don't check their account for days.  Plus if you have to close the case you get your fees back and can relist the item immediately.  It is quite simple.

Re: Seller tips?

To find the Immediate Payment Required option, you may have to use the Advanced Listing tool as opposed fo the Quick listing tool or the app. You can access the Advanced format via computer. I checked the app and could not find it there. Wish you the best in your selling.

PS—you are right about eBay not allowing sellers to wholesale block buyers with little to no feedback history. New buyers are coming in droves to internet sales due to the pandemic and should be welcomed, not held up to suspicion. The truth is that no one can tell a deadbeat buyer by feedback score alone. More is needed.

Re: Seller tips?

Hi yeah, I usually give a time to wait for anything like that. I just dislike how it kept happening for a while, and didn't even know that cancelling a transaction would do bad for my record. I've been doing what I can to make sure that what I sell and everything is good service because that's just how I do things. Didn't know that there was a drawback.

I'll check about the advanced format. I'm using the site too, so I'll look into that.

Re: Seller tips?

Noted, thanks. I usually take photos with flash since lighting sometimes isn't the best. It hasn't really affected buyers in the past, but thanks for the tips, I'll see what I can do in the future.

Yeah I actually had to open the case because I didn't even know about the ebay fees even if I didn't get paid.. The managed payment shift was a bit confusing so I'm still learning these things. Thanks again

Re: Seller tips?

Buy It Now is not the same as Fixed Price-- although some do use them interchangeably.

BIN is an option on Auctions, allowing early bidders the chance to shorten the time they have to wait for the auction to end, by paying more for the item.

When the first bid comes in, however, the BIN option usually disappears, and the auction continues for the full seven days.

Fixed Price is a different format, where the seller sets the price and the buyer has up to 30 days to purchase immediately. It can be combined with the Immediate Payment Required option, which means that the listing is open until someone actually pays.

Both formats allow Best Offer, although generally BO on Fixed Price listings are lower than the asking price and BO on Auctions will be higher than the current high bid or opening price.

Newbies often don't realize that they were bidding in an auction, and just move on if they don't immediately get billed at the price they wanted to pay.

Another reason why Fixed Price makes up 85% of transactions.

And many of those 0FB accounts have other more "mature" accounts but are buying a gift, of buying for resale, or buying something embarrassing.

The first thing you might want to do is reshoot your photos.

Do you have a scanner, or a printer /scanner? If your product is flat, scanning gives a sharper more accurate picture and allows you to focus on fine detail.

I can reduce the area I am scanning to just the drawing of pattern views and if necessary increase the detail from 600dpi to 1200 dpi.

Re: Seller tips?

So instead of cancelling it, I had to open a case. Ebay will take care of it? I didn't know that ebay charged fees for things not paid for, and something about the ebay seller record is that right?

So what happens now?

Re: Seller tips?

Read the page that I provided the link for in post #2. It's the Help page about what to do when a buyer doesn't pay.

Re: Seller tips?

We look for any reason to add buyers to our block list. They send a lowball offer? BLOCK! They ask a question that is already answered in the description? BLOCK!

But, really, you can't avoid all these problems. We try to sell enough so they are a minor problem.
