This seller listed an item then remove is only after I asked him for more details about the item.
Claims to now re-list with much higher price.
I feel no one made him post the item, if you the seller do not understand what you are selling you should not be able to re-listed after you do research on the item.

You are wrong. Yes, sellers SHOULD know what they're listing, but sometimes they don't. Human nature.
Also, you stated that you asked for more details, not that you bought it or made an offer.

"If you the seller do not understand what you are selling, You should not be able to re-list after you do the research on the item"
Seriously?

What you feel and what a seller can do are two different things. A seller can price his items any way he feels like. Not only is this true on ebay, but in every other marketplace in the world as well.

It was auction-style. Chances are that $50 would have been bid way up if the true value is closer to the $350 it's now listed at.

By what concept? It's not a market without price discovery.
The bottom line is that if you own something, you get to set whatever price you want for whatever reason you want. If as a buyer you don't like a price, don't pay it. That's how you control prices.

Exactly. I have been collecting buying and selling for years, and of course, who knows the value of all things. I would have done the same had someone asked. If you want to buy a deal, bid and keep your mought shut and take a chance it is what you think it is. Sellers are on here to sell, not give stuff away, so if you see what you think is a deal, do not make a big deal over it. Bid. They probalby would have been happy for the sale at whatever they listed it to start at, before they found out it is worth more. And even if someoen makes an offer, that is NOT a deal until accepted.

Certainly without first thanking you for making him research the item a little further.

Right, because we have all had a chuckle over some piece of realy garbage someone has up for thousands of dollars. Once early on I saw someone with a piece of junk jewerly like I collect, cheap, and it is cheap, listed for $3000 or something, I thought they added 2 or 3 extra zeros, I have done that, $1500 instead of $15 so I sent a not and got my head bitten off. Good luck, it is probably still in their junk jewrlry drawer. haha!

Not these days. I seldom get more than one bid or perhaps two no matter how low I price stuff. For years I start at the least I will take.

It's a bummer ... but no rules or laws broken.
If i listed used toy for $20.00 and then discovered it's worth $10,000.00, you better believe i'm ending the listing to price it higher.

The item belongs to the seller until someone buys it.
Until then he is free to list it, end the listing, raise the price, lower the price, or set it on fire if he wants to.

Sounds like you should have just bought it instead of asking questions, then you would not have had to ask another question here.

It's not a violation of eBay policy to do that.
eBay allows people to end listings early, for a variety of "errors in the listing", including price errors.

When you find an item listed for cheap don't ask questions. Doing that alerts the seller that their item is worth more than they thought. There is noting wrong with a seller that finds out they are loosing money to cancel. The only exception is if the seller gambled at auction.
