It is safe to say that if you do everything eBay wants you to do and become a top rated seller, it means appsolutely nothing if you don't jump through all their new hoops? I mean if you keep going about your business like you have and received top rated that's not good enough. You don't get no fee discount like they say if you're top rated. You don't get the little deal. All you really get is top rated when you look up your performance on the sellers hub. eBay tells you become a top rated seller you get this and you get that. But in all actually you get nothing. Unless you change all the ways that got you to top rated seller. Because if you don't change your good selling ways to their new ways of selling you get nothing. Am I correct for saying this? In all my readings this is how I take it.

I am "top rated", but do not jump through the "plus" hoops.
Top rated gets me a little extra "Priority" eBay shipping label discount.

In order to get a 10% discount for Top Rated Plus on Final Value Fees you need to have 1 day handling time and offer 30 free returns (seller pays shipping)
You are currently either not accepting returns or you have 14 day returns. Both can be trumped by eBays Money Back Guarantee policy.
You’re also not Top Rated. To achieve TRS you need to sell 100 items and earn $1000.00 from US buyers in 12 months.

So then what I said would be correct. All your selling ways that got you to top rated isn't good enough. You may be top rated but if you keep your good selling ways it is absolutely worthless. So the best bet is to stay above standard because you get the same thing

Read what you said and I just posted almost the same 'question' - from what the bot typed you, like me, aren't 'top rated' - in my case just lost. Also seems by bots upload you don't do the return thing needed to get discounts and maybe other things that ebay demands you do to get the perks. You know, you don't jump thru all the hoops, just some. So great service but no discount.
To me saving another what? - 10% on 13.35% - so $0.013 cents on the dollar? Just don't matter. Thirteen cents? Still don't matter. Can't do math on the weekends.
Now let me state that this is ebay's site and what they say goes - not complaining about fees or needed rules. Even understand that they understand the return and non paying problems that both us and they are having, and how they are tried to get it under control, if not just 'fixed'
As I said in my post - "We don't think we didn't sell enough, we think people didn't buy enough. So it's all those look but don't buy people's fault."

Again, you are not TRS, not with a no returns policy.

Wrong- your 'selling' ways got you to Top Rated. To become Top Rated Plus and get the 'rest' of the perks, you have more 'measurables' that have to be met. That is just life; been that way since Elementary School.
To be on the Honor Roll. 3.0 Average, which is a 'B' average.
Want to be on the 'Principles' Honor Roll? you need a 3.5 average (A-).
Same in the business world
You've only met 'some' of the measurables if you are just 'Top Rated'
But, Top Rated does let you do things that being just 'above average' did:
It lets you give 50% returns if item returns in 'less than condition' but if and only if, you also offer returns.
Lets you do promotions
Lets you do EIS (international)
Tells buyers you are Top Rated

I think you're confusing Top Rated Sellers (TRS) and Top Rated Plus (TRS+) Sellers. You have to weigh your willingness against the requirements for each and decide what might work best for you. Good luck with that.

A lot depends on your motivation to Sell on eBay ... at present I can offer the things that makes TRS turn in to TRS Plus on my listings which means a 10% discount on FVFs ... they adjust for that on each transaction. If I sell between 45K & 50K annually it means a couple hundred bucks which to me is worth it.
I understand it may not be worth it to you so the Above standard level is fine BUT if you happen to sell 100 items and at or over $ 1000 in 12 months domestically, then you will become TRS whether you want to or not ...

I am "top rated", but do not jump through the "plus" hoops.

You apparently do not understand how the discount works.
eBay does not say you get a discount for being Top Rated. They say if you are Top Rated, you are eligible for a discount for any listings of yours that meet the criteria for the discount.

OK - 'stainless' said above you get four things being top rated - 50% returns, promotions, whatever EIS is and
tells buyers. None are those are important to us.
But you said 'extra "Priority" eBay shipping label discount.' Now that's something that would get us to list more of the newest stuff on this ID to get sales back up. Not that we use priority that much - lot's of media and light 1st class stuff.
Nice to know.

But since you do NOT offer returns, you don't get the 'up to 50% on returns'
EIS is Ebay International Shipping- allows you to list thing internationally and ship to a US based ebay location that will handle the 'rest' of the transaction.

@a-lotta-stuff I'm not sure about the shipping discount, maybe I missed reading it but I did not see any statements to that effect in the eBay Helps pages ...

I agree with most of it the returns not so much. Just because what you said "it's ebay's website" it is and it's been theirs for 20 plus years now if they haven't fixed the problem in the length of time, time to hire new personal or sell the company. In that amount of time there should be no big hick ups. Yes I know in business you get hick ups all the time . When it's a big part of your business you figure it out fast and deal with your small ones on a weekly basis or not a 20 year hick up that's a big part of your company. For as long as they have been doing this it should be a well oiled machine. It's not even close to that. They have a lot of little problems that they even try to fix that would be easy fixes

Your right I only mess with the United States of America. Americans helping Americans. I did offer returns for over a year how else would I know that top rated doesn't mean squat.
