Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Hello Ebay Members,

Just sent a message to a seller asking qustions about a item. Seller does not repond just raises the price and ends the item. What is a person suppose to do when no body wants to communicate? This has happen to me several times. I'm not tring to be _____ about it. Why even sell at all?  As a buyer I'm starting to get a bad vibe as do not even ask qustions put that on your ad. The Feedback communication system does not work on here. What a waste of time? Hope all is well for other sellers buyers.

We might be better  at helping you if we knew what question you asked the seller . Like others have pointed out  perhaps your question caused the seller to rethink his  price ? Tulips

  How old is the item?

Wanted to know the date code on the item for warranty purpose because the warranty is transferable according to manufacture.

@repair1techj  LOL!  No offense but your post caught my eye ... so what were the questions you asked?  Unless I accidently missed one or two my Descriptions end with "Questions welcome"...

You sound like you are the type of Buyer who reads the listing and looks at the pictures ... ALL of them.  This evening I got another question on an item whereby the answer was in Conditions AND Description PLUS there was a picture of the item the member asked about ... I just scratch my head at times.

You mentioned this has happened to you several times ... without knowing what  you are trying to buy and what the questions were its hard to really give you a good answer ...

Most sellers even when they get a legitimate question from a buyer, before they will respond they look at your  feedback left for others sellers.     If you have dropped several negative feedback  or the seller can decipher from your feedback received you are problematic, they will do all within their powers not to sell to you.   If a problem is detected with you,  not selling to you could mean:   raising the price, ending the listing, and/or simply blocking you.

The question was how old is the item?

Wanted to know the date code stamped on the item because the manufacture offers a transferable warranty.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Usually, if a buyer asks me many questions, they end up not buying my item. Ending an item just because a buyer asks questions is just foolish.

Raise the price end the item. All over about asking what the date code is stamped on the product for the transferable warranty because the manufacture offers it.

...and see if they are a rival seller. I rarely have transactions end well with people that sell the same stuff.

Most offers get run through toolhaus first....and it takes a bit of looking but you can see if they are fishing for partials as well

Just slam the door in your customers face or not?

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Real experienced scammers do not leave paper trails so most likely no feedback left.

I sell fine diamond jewelry and buy a lot of fine diamond jewelry, partiularly the old european and mine cuts, so I would hate for someone to block me because of that.

Maybe this is why alot of us have separate selling and buying accounts so we are not punished by sellers through no fault of our own.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I wouldn't assume anything. Only the seller knows why he did what he did. Why don't you just straight up ask him? Raising the price before ending the listing points to that there was a problem. Rare--the item was worth much more than he had it priced at. More likely--he didn't know where it was, or he had sold it before and ebay had ghost listed it again, or he sold it someplace else, or he decided to keep it for himself, or his brother, wife, neighbor, friend wanted it...the possibilities are endless really. Maybe it was broken, lost, or defective in some way. What I wouldn't do is assume that what transpired had anything to do with me and my question. Your question was not offensive, so I wouldn't worry about it. The item is for whatever reason no longer available, go find another.

Random thought:
They looked for the date asked and suddenly noticed they were dealing with an antique?!
Whole different ballgame! lol

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I once got a question about measurements for a garment. In the process of doing so, spilled my coffee on it! Ended listing right there
Though did respond; Sorry, this item got damaged during handling.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Yes, I asked a question about a vintage doll and when the seller went to look, its head fell off.

And that is why a little communication goes along way in letting the buyer know that while things happen, it was not their fault.

But I do understand what the OP is saying.  Raising the price and then cancelling seems like an odd combination.

I can tell you sellers here get cold feet in a real hurry, you may not have meant any harm through the question but sellers don't always see things that way... For example, yesterday I had a buyer ask why I didn't take paypal?

This question came after the purchase was already made.

I gave as short an answer as possible (2 lines, one sentence) about managed payments...

Then this morning came the next question:

"When will my item arrive?"

I got the feeling right then, I should have never answered the first one.

I have a half a mind to cancel the sale since I haven't shipped yet (It is Thanksgiving).

Why, what is the problem?

Right, what is the problem, when the buyer orders my item they can see right there what the estimated delivery date will be!

So why all these questions, seems to me they're just shaking the tree to have a little fun and see what falls out... I can see the next thing coming, a SNAD and I get back their old item and they keep my new one.

The above is simply the nagging suspicion of what might happen next.

Should I ship, or should I cancel?
