Seller contacted me to pay for something that I didnt buy

Hello, I was looking into a listing of a graphics card for $38, but the price went up in the auction and sold to some other bidder for $51.08 and about $19 shipping. So, today the seller contacted me saying that I HAD PURCHASED the card although it was another user. I dont know what to do, please help.

P.s: the seller asked me to pay him for something that I didnt even buy.

Did you bid on the item?  If so, there is something called a 2nd chance offer.........wherein the seller can offer a lower bidder a chance to buy if the winning bidder backs out or the seller has more than one item........  You don't have to buy it, it's just an offer.

Go check the listing.  If the higher bidder retracted his bid, it may have left you as the "winner".   If that is not the case, just ignore.

What is the listing number?

If you look at the auction while signed in, and any bids were retracted or cancelled, you will see “You won this item.”

Without that, it is a second chance offer and you can ignore it.

A question: Does the email from the seller have something like “question about Item #XXXX” in the title?

If so, the seller is emailing through the listing itself via his Seller Hub and offering you a second chance.

If it’s a straight member to member contact then something isn’t right.

AND - are you sure your max bid wasn’t higher? Even with a second chance offer, they can’t ask for more money than your highest bid. So that would be a flag.
