Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

Having been with ebay for years and 500 transactions, both selling and buying, i am now below standard. When i ended up in the hospital and couldn't ship the items i was selling i had a friend try to take over for me and ship what they could and contct all buyers to let them know what had occured. My rating remained at 100% as aall were contacted by her and properly informed. Niether Paypal nor ebay lost any money nor did any buyer.

I have now recovered from the hospital stay and health problems that put me there and listed again a couple of items. One item was purchased and i only now find out that paypal/ebay is withholding payment until i ship and the buyer receives the item.

What store will let you take an item home and check it out before you pay for it? what possible protection does a seller have that the buyer will not raise some reason to not want to pay or pay full price because they don't want to? Sorry ebay but i will not ship anything without receiving payment first...... just like any store i go to. Business can not afford to be put at risk of being scammed by buyers that know they have the upper hand and can renegotiate or refuse to pay for what they already have in their possesion. Done selling on ebay if the risk of getting paid is at the whim of the buyer. Pay me.... i ship, Hold my money, no ship...... no sell.

I would have thought that with no money lost by anyone, and rating still showing 100% with over 500 transactions, all parties aware of situation, what is happening that those of us caught in uncontrollable circumstance can be punished and have to accept this risk to continue selling on ebay. This just seems wrong to this oldog. My selling days on ebay are over until and unless this is adjusted in how sellers are treated.

Re: Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

It sure is amazing to me how so many of you are supportive of being contractors to eBay and allowing them, not your customers, to determine if you are a good seller to work with or not. I never agreed to act as a 'contractor' to be rewarded or punished by eBay. I realize many of you NEED eBay and are alright with the rating system of your overseeing employer..... Ebay. So...... it is my choice to decide how i do business and who i respect and do business with. Simply put- i choose to not do business through eBay as a seller. And for all the comments about how i did get paid then there is obviously difference in what is getting 'paid'. holding onto funds until a buyer gets the item and doesn't complain or raise issues only then does the seller get 'paid'. If any of you don't understand the risk in this then why don't you all allow eBay to hold your money until after delivery and 100% satisfaction with the item? i think eBay should do this for all sellers to protect the buyers because sellers are only contractors to eBay where the buyers are the real customers. jus'think'n

No one here is a contractor to anyone else.  Sellers here buy/rent ad space and agree to certain terms of conduct.  Sellers are the cutomers of the site.  Buyers are the customers of the sellers.  Using the payment gateway comes with a separate set of terms.  If you're eligible, you can use a different payment gateway that will have different terms.

Re: Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

I just reviewed all information available through eBay and PayPal and do not find where i agreed to terms of use that allow withholding payment for items based on eBay rating. It would then appear that because eBay sent me a message saying i was below standard according to their rating of me and that i would have to agree to having funds withheld/put on hold should i desire to continue as seller. well.......... i don't. Don't you get it????? so all of you that are only on here to get 'points' such as the above poster, again, don't you get it? i don't care! If eBay is so important in your life and ego that you have to defend no matter what in order to continue your image of self and getting cudos then i can only say.... amen. lol

Re: Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

.......just one last thing- agreeing to 'terms of use' is a contract for use. so why aren't sellers contractors? they are.

Re: Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

Contractors are essentially paid short term employees. If Ebay is paying you I wonder why they're not paying others?

If agreeing to a contract for use means you're a contractor then we're all contractors of companies like Apple, Verizon, Comcast and anyone else we sign a contract with?

Re: Seller below standard rating risks and remedies

PayPal didn't withhold funds, eBay did. Funds never appeared in PayPal. PayPal shows three reasons to withhold, none of which are due to Ebay rating. eBay says do what they say to raise rating. I don't care about their rating, i had 100% CUSTOMER satiafaction. If i can't sell without the risks i already mentioned, then i won't sell on eBay. again... simple! Customer satisfaction is what matters to me. Obviously you as a shill are posting this on behalf of eBay since you are neither a buyer or seller on eBay, so..... ?????

lol!!  How could you possibly know whether members who post on these discussion boards are buyers or sellers... or neither?  You just take a peek at the ID they use here, and think that's IT?  Nope, that would just go to show that you aren't aware that many eBay members have and use several accounts in their businesses here.  Many of us sell on several different selling accounts, also have a 'buying' account (or more), and an insignificant account we use here on discussion boards, or perhaps even an account here that has never been used to buy or to sell at all.. showing 0 feedback.

So, not shills, Slow... more likely very long-time experienced eBay members who are buyers and sellers like the rest of us, who have their sales business here, and who take an interest enough to give some of their own time FOR FREE to answer questions and give advice and help to other members who come here and ask.

So, you don't have to learn.  You don't have to come to understand.  You don't have to do anything you don't want to do.  There are the occasional folks who get themselves all in a snit and go storming off, and you can do that too, if you want to.  Although, usually, cutting off your nose to spite your face mostly just leaves you without a nose, and nobody else is hurt by your tantrum.

I think the smartest move to make would be to learn what happened, why it happened, assess where you are right now, and learn and implement what the next smart step would be to take to get yourself back into great good standing here, so you can get going again.  And THAT part isn't really very hard to do.  But you have to capitulate and work within the system to accomplish it.

If it is worth it to you, you can do it and good luck.  And if it isn't worth it and you want to head out, well.. good luck to you wherever you land.

What does your dashboard look like? Feedback does not play a part in seller evaluations.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

If the funds never appeared in PayPal, then this isn’t a funds withholding issue at all. You’ve been ranting about something totally unrelated to your problem, which is not surprising.

If the money never showed up, either the buyer never paid, or you put the wrong PayPal address in your listing.
