Seller Protections & Policy Updates

Not sure what you mean by "Yay is out," but my first thought was that someone with a badgemaker was being sarcastic. However, the lower right badge does echo a change that we were told would be coming on October 1, during the Up Front/Chicago get-together that eBay put on last month. Seller history will (they say) be taken into account when trying to resolve a he-said/she-said dispute between buyer and seller.

AC- I thought the pins were sarcastic at first, too- but I think they might be SWAG from eBay given out at Open?

By "yay it's out" the OP is probably referring to these updates going into effect Oct 1st.

It would be better if they really did take your history into account, and not limit all of these new "protections" just to TRS sellers - who even looks for them since it's only noted on feedback unless your listing is a TRS+ listing?

After all, there are a lot of us out there who have no time to list 100 auctions a year(I say auctions, since I only list auctions here - that's WHY I'm here!).

@earlyant-77  Well maybe it can be  added to the seller protections.

I know for a fact that eBay really wants to work  with sellers so maybe suggesting more protections will get them to look into it

I hope that Sellers get treated much better, but whatever was rolled out under the previous CEO (who just departed) ... may or may not remain in place or intact in the future.

Hopefully, the new eBay CEO and Leadership Team will move forward with positive changes, and a better Vision and Roadmap for eBay.

The teams and  the CEO that is in placed right now until they find a permanent one are on the same page and not willing to go backwards! They are committed to sellers , and this policies are showing the protections that we all have been asking for

I guess you missed the very recent post from someone who sold expensive fragrance and the buyer returned a fake. An eBay rep joined the discussion and said even if that happened after Oct 1st the seller would still not qualify for protections because the buyer claimed it was fake before returning something totally different. It seems to me that very little has actually changed in the realm of seller protections. eBay made a tiny baby step, not a giant leap as it was portrayed in the seller update. It's better than it was before... but barely.

Just yesterday I saw a post from someone with a new account getting hit left and right from scam artists attempting the fake paypal payment scam. They posted screenshots and one of the IDs was a match to a scammer that tried to hit my account a month earlier. If eBay can't get rid of the most blatant, obvious scammers then how can we trust they will offer real seller protections for the scams that slide right in with eBay's policies? I'll believe in real seller protections when I see it, but I'm not holding my breath in the meantime.

This.

We've heard this talk many times before in the last 10 years, but what actually seems CONSISTENT is that any time an eBay exec gets too serious about this "seller protection" thing, next thing you know, they're gone. Rich Matsuura, Hal Lawton,  Bob Cupbens, Scott Cutler, and, who knows... maybe even Wenig.

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

It's always a hit to sellers when we lose execs who are receptive to our feedback. Last year Bob Kupbens did both mid-year and year-end check ins. He took Q&As from sellers on this board and directly addressed several questions we all had - the type of questions that aren't very fitting for the Wednesday chats. He also acknowledged the technical problems with the site and resolved to improve. Unfortunately he left not long after and this year the site is once again plagued with some massive problems. The worst of which, in my opinion, is buyers not being able to pay!

Exactly how much weight does eBay say seller history will be given ?

If the answer is unknown, not disclosed by eBay, perhaps that may be telling you something which may cause some concern?

@theshoppingmom2

I'm mixing up 2 different discussions (fragrance sale and clothing sale) and remembering them as the same issue, but here are links to both.

This one about the fragrance is tied to a free returns listing, but the same reasons eBay has for determining the buyer is right in this case would apply to the new seller protection rules.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Weekly-Chat-with-eBay-Staff/Community-Chat-September-25-1-00-pm-PT-Gen...

This is one where a buyer filed a SNAD because the zipper was broken, even though it was clear in the seller's listing that the zipper was broken. eBay said this would not qualify for seller protection with the new rules.
