At one time eBay would remove unwarranted neutral/negative feedback. Do they still do this? Thanks.

I thought that was the members, without us there wouldn't be an eBay.

I think he had buyers remorse, it had already been over 3 days but not quite 4 and hadn't paid. I was trying to avoid a defect. My thinking was if he had gone that long he wanted to cancel. My bad. I'll know better next time. I just don't get that rule, 4 days to pay, when I buy something on eBay I pay right away. Why would someone wait?

IMO, that feedback IS warranted. According to the feedback, you canceled the transaction with "buyer requested" as the reason. And clearly the buyer didn't request it!

Waiting for Friday's paycheck deposit?
4 days is too long in my opinion, but better than the 7 days we had to wait a few short years ago. These days eBay is working on various auto-pay options for offers and auctions to try and eliminate the non-payer problem. They still have major work to do in that area.

If you did a Cancellation using the reason The buyer did not pay, they should have been blocked from leaving feedback.
Did you file the cancelation 96+ hours after the purchase for non payment?

@daspotter wrote:Buyers get 4 days to pay? Who made that rule? I was taught when you buy you pay or make arrangement with the seller. That's great next time I'm in Walmart and get something I'll tell them I'll be back in 4 days to pay. We'll see how that goes over. eBay has given up so much to buyers, it all started with not being able to give Neutral/Negative feedback to buyers. Just sayin.
Well Ebay made the rule and it was a much better one than what we had before they implemented this cancellation process for non paying buyers.
So this means what the buyer said is actually correct. You filed the cancellation for some other reason because for non payment wasn't available to you when you filed the cancellation. What reason did you choose?

@daspotter wrote:You sound like a buyer. I like eBay, I've been selling there for over 20 years, just don't like some of their "Policies". Who makes eBay policy? A board, eBay employees, or eBay members? I also sell on Amazon also. Much better selling & buying platform.
Ebay does their policies mostly by Ebay employee committees that then get approved by someone higher up.
Sellers nor buyers need to agree with the rules, just abide by them. You should know that long before now.
You've got to be kidding about Amazon. I sell there too. They try to control my pricing, shipping time and so much more, no matter what I say. And so many other things. While sales can be good there, there is a serious price to be paid, not only in higher fees, lack of customer service, etc.

That is an abuse of the rules on Cancellations. Sellers do not have the right to decide that the buyer wants to cancel a transaction. That can ONLY be determined by the buyer sending you an email specifically stating that.
Sellers can be sanction for the abuse of the Cancellation system. If the buyer reports you for it, it could cause you an issue with Ebay.
Why would someone wait, you ask. Could be they are waiting for their pay day or any number of things that you are not aware of.

Remember originally, we had to wait 7 days after the purchase to even file an Unpaid Item dispute. Then the buyer was given 7 days to respond. A 14+ day process. Now that was excessive and harmful to sellers. 4 days is a breath of fresh air IMHO.

They should wait till payday.

Wait till Friday to buy.

Come on, think that through. If the auction ended a couple days before that, how would the buyer wait?
What the buyer should do when there is going to be a delay in payment is check with the seller BEFORE bidding to see if the seller is OK with the payment delay. If they aren't, they shouldn't bid.

Looking at the listing it was a seller initiated offer, not an auction. Buyer does not have to check with seller unless they plan to wait longer than the 4 days eBay allows. Seller cancelled before 4 days were up.
Offers initiated by buyers are all part of auto-pay unless seller disables that setting, but seller initiated offers and buyer counter offers are not all part of auto-pay yet (link).
If seller wants to enforce immediate payment and is that bothered by the 4 day payment window, they should not use seller initiated offers or accept buyer counter offers until eBay fine tunes the auto-pay offer system.
