I had a buyer purchase a large lot of 55 thermometers in March. Then open a return case. Money was held in PayPal for months. Customer never sent any return. Ebay finally deceided the case in my favor. Money was released . This is exactly what Ebay told me "You don't need to do anything else." May15 . Month goes by then out of the blue the money is removed on June 7 from my account and refunded to the buyer. No notification from Ebay at all just negative PayPal balance I contact eBay customer support they tell me a case was started in PayPal . I say what are you talking about. How can the buyer do that the case was settled in my favor. I am told again to contact PayPal. I do they say the buyer filed a case against me. I did not reply so they refunded the money to the buyer and no you waited to long to reply and we can do nothing for you. Didn't you see the Email they told me? I do not regularly open all my email from PayPal as there are so many most for just postage or ebay fees. Do you open every one? Ebay will take no responsibility at all I am out of luck seller protection doesnt protect you from PayPal false claims by buyers at all !! Has anyone else had this experience. I had no idea a buyer could even open a claim in PayPal over a Ebay case determined against them !

I could not agree more with your statement. Some irony in the fact that they so staunchly defend the buyers given their profits come from the seller fees. They get NOTHING from the buyers.

There should also be a scammer list that is available to sellers. My blocked buyer list is continually growing but only after some painful lessons. While eBay will do nothing to protect its sellers and we would have to manually add the names to our blocked buyer list it may thwart a few scam attempts. There is also some irony in the feedback these days since you can no longer leave neutral or negative feedback about a buyer.

If you have a 30 days return policy then the process is automated since you must accept all returns w that policy

You closed the return w a refund and buyer is not required to return. Its been a while since I have gotten on but but the email informing buyer of refund tells them they do not have to return(not sure if it still does)

If a buyer opens up a claim on PayPal you need to contact PayPal. I have had a few cases where PayPal sided with me. But you need to follow their directive.

Success with that, most buyers would ignore you. Given a chance people don't mind to do an occasional retail theft if you live far away from them.

Please understand that eBay's switch to Managed Payments has absolutely nothing to do with whether your buyer can file a case against you in PayPal. Managed Payments has to do with how sellers get paid (and pay their fees).
IF THE BUYER PAYS FOR THEIR PURCHASE WITH PAYPAL, THEY WILL STILL BE COVERED BY PAYPAL'S BUYER PROTECTION, which includes 180 days from date of purchase to file claims. That does not change for Managed Payments sellers.
If the buyer uses a credit card, they can file for a refund with their credit card issuer.
Neither Apple Pay nor Google Pay, both of which can be offered by Managed Payments sellers, have buyer protection programs.

You are right, Ebay won't take any responsibility because they have none in this case.
What happened was your buyer went to their credit card company and filed a dispute or they filed directly with PP. Two different types of actions on PP but still stuff the buyer could do.
Not reading your emails is not a defense of any kind. What did you expect them to do. They tried notifying you and reminding you but you never took any action. So you left PP no choice but to refund the buyer. Ebay had nothing to do with this.
Now you can learn from this moving forward and just don't let it happen again. If you are getting too many emails from Ebay that you are ignoring all of them too, then it is likely at some point you will have similar problems on Ebay because you aren't reading emails that you should.
Go into your site preferences for communications and opt out of email you don't want on Ebay and PP. In the future make sure you at least look at the subject of the emails before deciding to ignore them, but that will still not be a completely accurate way to see all the ones you should read. You should open and look at all your emails.
Most sellers can tell you that along their journey here we have made mistakes that cost us money before. We are human and we make these mistakes from time to time. Learn from it and don't repeat it. It is within your power to prevent this from happening again.

Buyers can still pay with PayPal. They can still file claims with PayPal even though you are in MP. The difference will be that ebay will handle these for you from now on. To me that is a scary thought. I think there is a fee to the seller now for any "payment dispute".
