Seller Hub Active Listings, Orders, Overview - design changes rolling out

Mentioned in my post of Seller Check In Highlights from about 6 weeks ago:

Chuck [Van Pelt] shared sneak preview screenshots of upcoming changes to the Seller Hub Orders page and Active Listings page surrounding search/filter navigation on Active listings, features to more easily access repeat buyer history on Orders, and more. I strongly encourage everybody to watch their networking session.

Here's that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZeU_ynzUAY

I heard from a seller that has the new view today, at least for Active listings. I forgot to ask him about the Orders page. (In the video I loved what eBay did with repeat buyers on the Orders page.)

With my buddy's permission I'm posting screenshots from his new Active Listings view compared to the old view which most of us are still seeing. Green line is the divider. Top = current soon to be old view | Bottom = new view

Disclaimer: These images are from different computers and browsers, probably with different zoom settings, so don't assume that because the bottom one looks so tiny compared to the top that it actually is. I'm showing the comparison so you can see the changes in function and how everything is in a slightly different place under a more compact view with new filter buttons.

Seller Hub Active Listings, Orders, Overview - design changes rolling out

@wastingtime101  thanks for the write-up. Even though it is painstaking to waste time writing things out like that I think it is beneficial for the design teams to see it it black and white how what they do actually effects sellers. The step by step process shows in real life how detrimental this design is to efficiency.

I don't doubt that they think they are trying to make it better but they don't actual use the tools in daily use like sellers do. Sellers are the experts on what we want, not design team just out of college on their first job, trying to change the world.

Computers should be optimized for desktops and how we use them.

I just checked and it hasn't rolled out to our account yet, but we did have the "new" version that was testing a while back, and it was awful.  What little I saw of this one seems ever so slightly better, but it sounds like it's still missing features, so two things:

I'll report any problems I have with it to eBay and suggest as many other people do as possible

I'll continue to hopefully use my saved links for things that worked previously, and hope they continue to work even if the option isn't visible on the new page.  That worked for me before, and if you use particular views and haven't been rolled into the new system, I suggest saving bookmarks for each view you can think of that you use regularly, and hope they work even after options are taken away.

Dear eBay,

You are wasting my time with never-bleeping-ending bleeping-clicks.

I cannot stand inefficiency.

From,

Unimpressed Seller

Seriously, who the hell thought nest inside of nest inside of nest side bar panel was a good idea? It takes 12 clicks what you used to be able to do in 2 clicks.

C'mon fellow click hater @siamjane8 , check this out:

As an aside, I wonder if ebay has noticed the sudden DROP in amount of FB left both by buyers AND sellers since their latest inefficient change to the leave FB pages?

Same as every other ebay change........throw it out and see what sticks.........revise for the next 6 months and maybe get the thing usable, while sellers put  up with every "what happened now" scenario during the process.  Result.........aggravated sellers with very little, if any, "improvement" of the thing.........

Thanks, I appreciate it devon@ebay . The category filter process is a killer with the number of clicks involved. It's frustrating how eBay keeps taking us backwards with less efficiency and more work to perform simple tasks.

I guess ebay "communicates" in -house with its own designers and programmers like it does with its customers/sellers lol..... It just doesnt.    We have been through this many times before and they just do NOT listen to sellers who use the tools.   A desktop is a desktop and a phone is a mobile device- and you cannot make a desktop program the same as a mobile platform without sacrificing TOO much.

These mobile designs that everything is layered withing popups and menus just do NOT work for us- it creates an unacceptable amount of extra clicking and workload!  We have 24" monitors for a reason- so we can see and access all the filters and features WITHOUT hinting and searching through panels and boxes.

Are all these departments so segregated and separate that nobody talks to each other- After the unified listing tool debacle- wasn't a company wide memo sent out to all dept. heads saying- wow- we found out what does not work and how our customers actually want and use the desktop space on our platform?  Lets not waste time and effort and resources trying to force our mobile ideals and ambitions on our customers that do not want it?

A company that is hell bent ignoring the needs of its customer base and pushing forward with ill conceived designs is not going to progress or get better.

eBay- STOP MAKING THE PLATFORM TAKE 5x-10x HARDER TO USE AND NAVIGATE BY HIDING EVERYTHING IN INNEFFICIENT POPUPS!!!!!!

It takes SIX clicks to select ONE subcategory and apply the filter.

If eBay paid me $1 per click for all the time I've wasted with this poorly thought out function change I might not be as angry.

Seriously, six freaking clicks to apply one single category filter. My brain can't even comprehend what makes someone think that's a good idea, let alone have the audacity to call it "more efficient" on the pop up when it takes more time and pulls your view to an entirely different section of the screen. Everything about it is less efficient.

This is the kind of crap that leads me to spend more time on my Amazon listings than eBay.

As has been said by everyone else, this is the stupidest change yet. It now takes click after click after to find what I could have seen  with no clicks. Who are these idiots who think these changes are better?

I still cant wrap my mind around how these obviously detrimental designs are still being developed and sent to programming and then put out there......   It just common sense that if a new design takes 6x the clicks to accomplish a task-then it is far less efficient!  There must be a common "roadmap" of design that they make up years ago and all the departments are still trying to stick to it or something.   The person who came up with the dumb design is probably not even working there anymore.

We need common sense designs that are simple and efficient and do not confuse or hide the information.

Ebay is not an art exhibit- it just needs to function correctly and in a user friendly way- not in a way that frustrates and wastes users time and energy. We should never even have to think about or notice things like selecting a filter- it should just be obvious, effortless, unnoticeable,- even unremarkable.

I have never had to put soooo much thought and effort into using any other website in my life!  Constantly sifting through changes and page layouts - with absolutely no consistency- its just laughable. (if it wasn't effecting my livelihood.......even the listing tool is still work- the main attributes are in a different and seemingly random order for every other category or subcategory.  mfg part # is sometime at the top/ then next time its 5 down from the top etc- ebay keeps us constantly searching so we cant get in a comfort zone and just work- we are constantly "learning" and wasting time )
