Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

I have now contacted CS twice by phone, and received two emails that directly contradict what the CSR told me on the phone.

I received a "seller defect" because eBay says I shipped an item late. The item sold Dec. 26 and was shipped January 3. The fact is, and is documented on the Buyer's Note and in messages, she requested I delay shipping until Jan. 3.  So I shipped it on Jan. 3, THE EXACT DAY THE BUYER REQUESTED.

Of course, I got a Seller Defect due to late shipping.

A phone CSR agreed that I was correct to ship when the Buyer requested, and sent notes and the documentation to the "defect team". A day later I got a boilerplate email from the "defect team" stating they could not remove the defect because I shipped the item late. Duh.

A second call to a phone CSR who quickly found the documentation, and said he would, again, contact the "defect team" with proof of late shipment due to the buyers request.

A day later I get another boilerplate email from the "defect team" adamantly saying they would not remove the defect because the item clearly shipped late.

Is ebay really this disorganized, incoherent, and downright incompetent? Are we really supposed to ignore a Buyer's request in order to not receive a "defect", thus incurring a negative review from the Buyer?

Not really.

Most people have one or the other and are used to using them.

Finding the method on the site is more difficult.

The idea is to make the customer's job easy.

And the addresses are not to public forums but to private messaging. (I've probably got the wrong jargon words there.)

And since the phone reps don't even work for eBay at all, while the social media reps are employees, there is more privacy on the FB and Twitter sites.  The third address is a direct eBay "social media" site.

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

Ohh man. I wish now that those were the depth of my issues with how this company is ran. I had to turn over my entire account and store to my father due to serious health complications. Different bank, username, SSN and all personal information. I called eBay several times to make sure that the taxes would also reflect the change since I was in and out of the hospital. Then comes tax time and they give the entire 1099K to me and when my dad calls to have them change the amount to when he took over, they made him send something like over a dozen copies of his bank statements to prove that he had changed the bank account…

Only to then tell him that it’s too bad they’re not going to fix it. Then why make him send so many copies of his bank statements? Why tell me or have SEVERAL REPS tell me it would be okay as long as all the information changed.

So now I have a 1099K over $23k to try to battle out with the IRS… while being sick at the same time (which was the entire point of him taking over.) I wish people who represented the company actually knew what they were doing… or at least had to take responsibility and honor the “rules” that not just 1, but many, of the employees confirmed. Even having all the communications with all these employees as proof amounts to nothing. It’s INFURIATING! Ahh. I can’t even think about it too long lol I’m so overwhelmed

What a schlemozzle.

When you and your dad were "calling" eBay were you doing so by phone?

If so, as described above, you were not dealing with eBay staff, but with undertrained clerks working for a subcontractor in Utah.

and when my dad calls to have them change the amount to when he took over,

From one point of view, that's a Good Thing.

MP is making sure that your account was not being hijacked.

On a site wide basis, they were acting responsibly. On a personal basis it is frustrating.

So now I have a 1099K over $23k to try to battle out with the IRS…

You may want to consult a tax expert on that, rather than fighting yourseld, unarmed and ill.

Since the $23K is the amount you have received, there are also a lot of deductions available to you.

But it would be my understanding that it remains your account, although your father is running it for you.

So you are still receiving the income.

Your father's wages for his labour becomes one such deduction.

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

Here's the problem with s***** sellers on eBay, if a tracking number isn't provided, and the seller just clicked the shipped button, 100% of the time the item never got shipped!, I recently experienced this problem out of a seller who is a total loser!, But he's now going to pay dearly with his account shut down thanks to me, I used to be a SquareTrade member seller here on eBay, and to you people that don't understand what that means, 100% positive feedback items getting to the customer on time 100% was the norm, these days on eBay it's totally different! I'm about to wash my hands of eBay all together just because of the sellers that aren't worth a **bleep**!

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

I’m not worried about the taxes. This is my only profit- I don’t have the I am in and out of hospitals and doctor’s offices with my “dad.” Not sure why he’s in quotes. He called, I called, it went through email & at the end, the head of the dept. I had medical letters stating I was diagnosed with a serious medical disease. I told them I can get them ANY MEDICAL PROOF they need if they doubt my “dad” is a real person. I am adopted… so I guess there’s that- but aside from that.. It’s hard to sell on EBay as much as I did before when you can’t even drive anymore and you’re in the doctors all the time. The $23k isn’t the problem- it’s the principle…. And now they are telling me that eye drops are drugs and I have to take the listing down (but only the big size of them- the small size is just fine.) What drug specifically is the problem? The rep. Answer is “Well.. don’t people use them for their eyes?” Are you f****** kidding me? Yes, I also eat FOOD bc I’m helping my stomach and sometimes I take cough drops because it helps my throat. I know dozens of makeup items with things like arsenic in them- no prescription needed. Idk. Maybe they just really want people to leave. It’s really unfortunate bc I’ve put in so much work since 2005. Since Dec. I haven’t been able to due to my condition and who knows… maybe only have problems with my listings. Or the size of the boxes in my listings… bc it’s certainly not the “drug,” seeing as it’s still there- and dozens of people are selling them as we speak.

It just makes me sad. So much wasted money paying for a store, wasted time trying to really meet all the description criteria even before they made it mandatory and wasted energy feeling like no one in this company gives a **bleep**. Yeah- I know, I should get a thick skin yadda yadda. Just give me a moment to **bleep** about the last 17 years that I’ve wasted too much time trying to keep up with an impossible situation. Or, feel free to stop reading what I write. Maybe I shouldn’t care, but I actually put a lot of effort in over almost 2 decades and the min I get sick- nothing is good enough and I can’t get a break from them for any reason. It’s so disappointing. For my “dad” too, but more bc he’s seen what’s happened and how downhill everything has gone he took over & knows how hard I worked to create listings, etc.

@homeoftechandbeauty

There is no way to change account ownership.

If you were ill, why not just put your listings on ‘time away’?
It doesn’t make sense why you were trying to give the account to someone else while you were sick.
Why do you still pay for a store with less than a dozen listings up?

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

The reason why I didn’t put it on time away is because I spent hours making each listing last year and whether or not that’s foolish or a waste of time- it’s the work that I put in so that in the future I would only need to do things like maintenance… or going to the post office and doing all the things that my dad can do with no problem because they’re more or less mechanical. I’m sure there’s people that put a lot more work into more important things… but I put my work into this- with no background in any kind of graphic store sales online like I read books and it took a really long time for me to understand how to even work a laptop at all. I’m sure that sounds really pathetic and I understand if people just want to stop reading right now because I get it- until like a year and a half ago I really only sold things maybe once a month but because I put in all the work that I did so that on the back end it wouldn’t be as hard- I was just glad that when I got sick, my eBay store was really at a point where it didn’t need creation or time; just shipping etc.

Trust me, I know how stupid this sounds and I’m fully aware that it was probably ridiculous that I put so much time and effort into something so small… but I did. Not only that, But before each stuff that I took I made sure to call and run things by people who I thought were for eBay or represented eBay because I didn’t want to have to do it all over again and I didn’t want them to throw away hours worth of work that I put in.. and now that I’m too sick to spend hours making listings, I really felt like glad that I had taken so much time in the beginning because now there’s really nothing left to do for my dad except make sure that the packages get out in time.
I even tried to set up a second eBay user ID to transfer over the items and then it would all be the same but it just takes up too much energy yeah I don’t have anymore because I put all of my energy into this. I guess at this point I’m just upset and **bleep**ing like somebody cares… bc it’s better than wondering **bleep** was the point of everything I did when now I have to just throw it all away.

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

Not sure if someone thought of this, but if the buyer themselves had waited a week to pay, then

there would have been no negative defects for buyer or seller.  buyer pays on Jan. 2, or 3rd, and then

the seller ships.  Problem solved.

I'm finding that haven't been responsive lately on Facebook messenger, not sure why.

Re: Seller Defects, eBay Incompetence

I've also had buyers request (post-sale) that I hold off on shipping because they're going to be out of town. My reply is always that I cannot due to eBay policy, defects, etc. I then suggest that they ask their local post to hold packages until they return. Works every time and I've never had a cancellation.

Just for clarity - what kind of "defect" did you get?

Or did it simply count against your shipping and tracking metrics?

Because the latter are not transaction defects.
