Seller just canceled my order and lied about the reason (problem with address) to save their backside. Do I have any recourse?

You can contact eBay to report the seller. Below is a link on how to do that. You can make the report directly from there. Seller-initiated cancellations carry a penalty. Since he canceled without your asking, he should have received a defect on his account.

***Update*** I managed to locate the item and leave feedback. I believe they realized they listed the item too low with free shipping. If they had contacted me with a message I would have agreed to cancel. I just didn't like the sneaky way they handled it.

eBay cannot force a seller to ship, any more than they can force a buyer to pay.
That aside, it looks like you found the recourse you were looking for.

Yes I did. I'm willing to work with sellers if they have a problem and I'm usually pretty easy going because I used to be a seller too. I know ebay can't force them to ship but please don't lie about the reason for the cancelation. A little communication from them would have gone a long way here.

Seller’s feedback is now at 50%. He or she won’t be around very long if they continue on that path.

Hi Tina06457,
I just went through this on April 27. It was the same thing. My seller used the false reason of item no longer in stock and told me she couldn't ship it for the rate she listed, so I've asked for a week now to use eBay Fed Ex that gives sellers 50% discount. She refuses and is rude in messages saying now she would never sell to me !
eBay doesn't do much, the penalty is nothing.
I feel they should suspend the account to prevent other sales for at least a month. Maybe she'd actually ship it. I'm the same regarding working with sellers and offered to pay the difference.
This was a vintage OOAK light fixture, no way to run out and buy it.
Under my purchases / canceled items list it didn't have a drop down for feedback, I had to click on the bidders in listing itself and found out how to leave feedback. I wonder if my seller thought I could not leave feedback after a cancel, not easy to find. Maybe why she was so abrupt in messages ? I hate to do it, too, but felt I had no choice.

I just had the same exact thing happen to me. The seller even left me feedback saying hope to do business with you again. They cancelled my order under bad address (which is a lie) then leave me feedback. I found where I can leave feedback and have to wait 7 days. I did file a complaint also.

going through the same thing.....made a purchase, seller never shipped item....no response to any of my messages to seller....then they cancelled the order stating buyer requested cancellation....which i did NOT..... on my main page where it shows *waiting feedback* i found item and left negative feedback saying exactly what i just said here....

I don't think anything would come out of reporting a seller for cancelling an order, because eBay clearly states in response to a report that they will investigate the matter but won't reveal their findings with the reporter. My seller just canceller my order stating that I requested the cancellation, which I never did and put those items back on sale. Seller simply cancelled because I defended myself against his/her condescending message. Seems to me sellers can simply get away with unfair practices like this and eBay won't do anything because they make easy money out of these sales.
