See response I located a few days ago from eBay staff from 2021. Definitely applicable by my eyes. That is when search results became a total mess and most of the sellers I was speaking with said that their sales started to tank. Because listings are not always going in the original correct category like what used to be required, categories have become a jumbled mess with items that aren't even close to where they belong.
Hi! This is currently expected behavior. We're in the process of adjusting categories from concept-based categories to more dynamic product-based categories (we announced this last month here if you'd like to read more about it). The end-goal is actually less disruptions like this, and as we shift towards utilizing Item Specifics more and unique subcategories less, we're confident in that outcome.
While this move is in process you will see some unusual results, but rest assured that we expect this to be back to running as you'd expect within a few days.
The few days I guess never happened. As a side note received this error message recently for an item I was trying to list. Because ebay was suggesting inaccurate category suggestions I did a search to find other similar items and where they were listed.
This category isn't open for additional listings at the time, and beer or spirits aren't permitted in any other category. {e233617-1051617x}
The item I was trying to list was a NON Alcoholic liquid mix with multiple similar type items currently listed.
So I definitely understand your pain when it comes to the new normal of eBay search results.

I more example for the collection. Went to list a hardcover book using ISBN number. The results turned it into an eBook. So not even close. Spotted eBay's inaccuracy entirely by accident. To how many others has this happened and was it spotted before sending to eBay????
