Screwed on USPS 1st Class W/Tracking

Has this happened to you? Does E-Bay do this regularly? I ship soley using USPS/E-Bay shipping labels. Had a package going to Florida,1st class mail.Tracking showed it ARRIVING at the buyers home town post office,BUT, it then showed it went backwards to the previous city's facility in same state and that it was on it's way to buyers home town, and there it froze as IN TRANSIT. The buyer filed an item not recieved case and E-Bay refunded the buyer,BUT,they took the money from my Pay Pal account. Where the H.E.double hocky sticks is seller protection here? I provided the tracking info to all parties, called the USPS,also asked the buyer to contact his local P.O.  since it showed it arriving there at some point. But E-Bay took the money from my account stating that I did not provide proof of delivery. OMG! I am MAD as H.E.double hocky sticks! E-Bay punishes the buyer now for USPS mishandeling. God help us all if USPS goes on a mishandeling spree!

The policy is clear: seller protection in an 'Item not received" claim requires a delivery scan.

How did the BUYER get punished???????

Where the H.E.double hocky sticks is seller protection here?

Seller Protection works just fine IF you understand what it means!

God help us all if USPS goes on a mishandeling spree!

USPS isn't perfect, no shipping company is, you are the one who chose to use them so you are the one who covers the cost when they fail to deliver.

Sorry this happened to you, but I have to say...  if I ordered and paid for a coat from Macy's, if it didn't get delivered to me (and I don't care that it showed having arrived to my town) ... if it didn't get delivered to me, I'd be wanting my money back!

Go to your post office and file to have them recall that package.  When you ship with tracking, the USPS is supposed to be able to find any package in the country.  File to have that package recalled before it ends up delivered.

Also, have to ask... how long ago was the item shipped, and how long has it been since it was supposed to have been delivered?  I think the USPS is fabulous, but unhappily not quite infallible.

If I had a buyer file an INR case and I saw the tracking had stalled, the first thing I would do is call to get an extension on the timing of the case.

Think of how many items they deliver daily and how many actually have problems. It's an extremely small percentage. You just drew the short straw this time.

I ship 95% media mail and/or first class. Haven't had an issue yet (out of thousands of mailings).

If there is a delivery scan, then the buyer would be out of luck,DOUBT E-Bay would refund buyers who sole claim is they did not receive item if item shows delivered. In this case, tracking shows in transit (does not mean it was not delivered and just not scanned as such) so NO delivery scan. Either way,it is NOT the buyers NOR the sellers fault. The vast majority of items sold on E-Bay ships USPS. Policy or not, holding the seller accountable for a package lost by the 3rd party carriers is unacceptable,by me anyway.Unfortunately, have to "AGREE" with E-Bay policy in order to have the account. E-Bay looking out for E-Bay. Sellers with low end, uninsured items get screwed.

That extension should be automatic up to the date where the carrier decides it's lost, considering that the buyer could get the package the next day after ebay yanked the money out of the sellers account.

They should be holding the refund to the buyer until that time expires, if they were fair.

(sorry for the last 4 words up there - I couldn't help myself and I am still laughing at it).

I don't quite understand what you mean when you say ".....E-Bay looking out for E-Bay....."  Surely you aren't suggesting that the cost should be borne by eBay?

It's just a seller cost.  All businesses have the column for LOSS... which is where this will be entered.  It covers shoplifters, breakage, damage, etc. and the like, and related losses for online retail as well.  It's the occasional expense sellers have to endure, as sellers.  It doesn't always go smoothly, perfectly, PollyAnna Great.

The item in a mailer that gets caught in a conveyor belt and chewed to smithereens comes out of my pocket as a seller too.  Unfortunate.  Cost of business.  Loss column.  Phooey.

I think automatic extension would be great!  When tracking shows the package was accepted within the shipping time Sellers advertise, this largess would be greatly appreciated!

I have been told in the past that if the tracking does end up showing delivered at a later point to call back and you *should* be able to get the refund reversed.  I've never had it actually show as delivered after the fact so I have never tested this out.

OP - you're taking a risk by shipping First Class unless you are paying for extra insurance.  I don't pay for extra insurance, but I know that I'm going to have to swallow a few refunds. I opt to self-insure past what the post office provides with priority mail, unless something feels really off about the transaction or the item is one of a kind or particularly fragile.

I have never heard of ebay reversing a refund given to a buyer...never.  They might offer a seller a courtesy refund but don't see anything happening with the buyer.

I've never faced this situation in all the time I've sold here, so just speculating, but it seems like there should be some way to *work this*  Seems like eBay should have provided some way for sellers to seek fair redress is shipping does finally show as Delivered.  Of course, "seems like" is always questionable and laughable on eBay.

When eBay refunds the payment back to the buyer, doesn't it show on your sales page?  Couldn't something be worked through sending an invoice.. some way to file for payment through eBay, etc.?

Or does this end up being something like the ***Tough Luck, Cookie*** result when a newbie ships out the merchandise BEFORE the buyer has even paid, and now that payment is likely never going to be made.  Smiley Sad

Arriving at their local office is not same as delivered. You have zero protection if you did not buy insurance.

I had same thing happen to me last month 2 pakgs show at a post office and gone and I went ahead and just refunded buyer. I lost of $90. I learn now near holiday time to ship insured.

It is my responsibility even though usps messed up. Buyer  did everything they were supposed to do and part of the agreement was to get it to them by a specified date. If trackign shows delivered later then you can appeal decision. Only thing now is go to usps file a missing mail and direct them to return it to you. Go to paypal and dispute your shipping charge for that shipping label and USPS should refund you. The rest of the cost... well you have to pretty much eat that if you did nto have insurance.

Ebay cannot  amke a decision to force you to insure . Insurance if for the Seller not the Buyer or anyone else.
