I made mistake because I marked items similarly and didn’t think long put item in the box and shipped it. Buyer received wrong item. Now I approved the return paid label and offered to mail the correct item. I am afraid that Ebay will force refund after buyer receives replacement. What to do?

Hi. I made the same mistake once (I sell gemstones). You are very fortunate if you have a buyer who is working with you to fix the situation! One of the cleanest ways to deal with this, given eBay's system, is for the buyer to return the wrong item, let EB give the refund and then for the buyer to buy it again (at a discount or with a freebie for their troubles, of course). Be completely transparent with your buyer and tell them in advance how much of a discount or freebie you will give them. The only other alternative is to mail them the correct item with a return label in the package and ask the buyer to return the wrong item once they get what they bought. Sounds like you might have an honest buyer, so trusting them to mail back the wrong item might be okay (trust your instincts). Mistakes happen to us all - the thing that separates the winners is whether and what we learn from them. You are doing great as far as I can see. I hope I helped!

@partfinds

Have the buyer hang on to the wrong item for a little bit before shipping back and go ahead ship the correct item.

Once the buyer receives the correct item, they can cancel the return.

If the returned item is received back before, Ebay will refund the buyer.

Have a great day.

I wouldn't mail the replacement until you got the original item back..........

I wish Ebay made exchanges easier. I told buyer that Ebay wouldn’t allow me exchange after return request opened and to buy item in different listing. I will give them coupon as apology.

I have a similar one going right now, sent wrong item, buyer requested return.

I contacted buyer and they were OK with a replacement, I sent the replacement with a return bubble mailer with a label.

My problem is something that I never thought of, the buyer entered the tracking # of the return envelope that I sent.

I asked them to cancel the return and they are willing but say there is no option for that.

I think the return tracking # caused that, not sure what will happen when the "return" that was actually a replacement shows delivered, hopefully it will just time out as the buyer is happy.

I posted recently about a similar situation, except the buyer had filed a "Not As Described" dispute.

My initial solution was to (a) refund in full immediately, (b) let the buyer keep the wrong item, and (c) re-list the original item so the buyer could buy it again.

The general consensus here was that making the buyer re-purchase the item was extra work and unfair to the buyer, and I should just ship the second item for free.

My buyer filed “wrong item sent” which I think is still not as described?

How much was the item?

If the item was inexpensive I would do what luckythewinner said.

A) Refund buyer.

B) Buyer keeps the wrong item.

C) Send buyer the correct item.

I've done this before.
