Scotland does not exist according to eBay??

I have a mohair tam o'shanter and matching scarf made in Scotland..

I want to list Scotland as country of origin but it is not to found on drop down menu.

What kind of c**p is that?  Who has never heard of Scotland? Brunei Darussalama is an option but not Scotland?

Scotland is part of United Kingdom, as is England, Wales and Northern Ireland. If it was made in Scotland, choose United Kingdom as the country of origin.

Maybe because it's not an independent country?

That reminded me of the bulletin board days. On one of those someone got worked up insisting there was no such country as England. According to them it was  just a language Americans spoke not a country.

Thankfully education has got a bit better - perhaps.

I remember that being put to them but you know how it is when someone digs their heels in. I think they said something along the lines of it's just the name given to the language.

I used to like the old pre-internet bulletin boards. They never failed to give me a smile and a laugh.

to a_c_green and bennotbill.

I agree completely. I saw the New Mexico stuff on the news long ago.

I saw news stories where American college students see WWII (Roman numerals) , and they think it means world war eleven. When did the other nine world wars occur?

Thanks all. My bad, I should have known better.  Scotland is not a sovereign country.

Yes it's a boring fact but Britain is the name of the island which Scotland is a part of. As Scotland are not invading themselves I guess you mean free Scotland from the English invaders.

Great Britain, British Isles, United Kingdom, confuses me and I live here.

I always used to address greeting cards to the relatives back in "England," but in recent years I began to wonder why everyone else was sending to the "United Kingdom" instead, as if I somehow missed a memo on that.

I used to live near Loughborough, in Leicestershire. I think I was somewhere around 10 before I could spell it.

Now just try getting some Yank to pronounce either correctly!  Low-burrow Lester-sheer if this American remembers properly.  We have some Native American place names where I live, which give non-locals catfits.  I think it's universal.  As for Scotland, it's still part of the UK until pro-separation types get their way if that ever happens.
