Hello! Just a quick question for some guidance.
Fell into a selling scam:
Buyer bought item
I shipped it
Address was vacant.
How do I, efficiently, take care of this.

In today's world of new housing developments springing up all over, USPS may not realize and note immediately that the lot/home/whatever is now occupied and it may show vacant on tracking. Take a deep breath, don't worry about the tracking until the item is either returned to you, the customer contacts or you never hear anything from the buyer. Chillax and go on with your day. Life is good.

Was it shipped to address you were given or was it re-routed? If address on file you should be ok.

That's not guaranteed a scam. They could have just mistyped their address, or you could be wrong about it being vacant (did the USPS or your shipping service tell you that, or did you just map the address?). Is it being returned to you? If so, they're not technically entitled to a refund if you shipped to the address on the order, but an honest seller would refund, even if it's minus the shipping costs (which you'd be in your rights to do if it was the buyer's mistake).
Need more details, basically.

It was the one on file.
I think my worst "fear" is that somehow this will lead to my account being hacked...
but you think it'll be okay to wait it out?

Do you mean that the delivery address is a vacant lot?
Or that the address field on the payment/ship to label was empty?
What does tracking show?
Unless and until you get the item back, you shouldn't refund the buyer.
If the buyer opens INR, respond to the case with the tracking number. If tracking shows as undeliverable, the case should close in your favor. Buyers are expected to supply valid and correct addresses.

I watch my tracking. It was out for delivery and I noticed the red warning that said "vacant".
I went to the order and it's one of those new accounts.
*sigh*
it IS possible I am overblowing the situation...I apologize.
Should I calm down and wait you think?

Why is that that whenever a transaction doesn't go as smooth as possible, it's quickly labeled a "scam" here?

I was, actually, hoping someone would recognize my feelings and share in my outrage!
haha nah
first things first...in your opinion, should I contact seller or is waiting a better option. I assume the post office will automatically send it back as undeliverable?

@le-5262 : I cannot imagine how. None of this has anything to do with someone accessing your account in any way.
Regarding the delivery problem, if you shipped to the Ship To: address you received with the payment, and nowhere else, you should be fine. If it comes back to you, refund, but not before then.

If the buyer has actually file an Item Not Received claim, be sure to upload your tracking number to the case.
What does the latest tracking update say (look on USPS.com, not on eBay), and on what day did that occur? (If it's showing one or more "In transit" updates, go back to the last actual scan, and tell us when and where that occurred.)

Thank you. I apologize I probably did explain very clearly.
I have only gotten as far as the tracking showing a big red exclamation point and the words "vacant"
Now that I've calmed down about it...
I'm going to follow your advice.

Yep, chill and wait. Nothing you need to do until one of two things happens:
The item comes back to you (then you should probably just refund minus shipping costs).
The customer opens a case for Item Not Received (then just make sure the tracking number is visible in the case, let them know what happened, and refund only if the item comes back to you). eBay is supposed to back you up in situations like this, but come back here if that does happen and we can guide you through the process to make sure it doesn't get messed up accidentally.

Thank you! I apologize that I was pretty unclear in my explanation.
I was watching the tracking to make sure it delivered and have only gotten as far as seeing an error on the USPS tracking.
"Regarding the delivery problem, if you shipped to the Ship To: address you received with the payment, and nowhere else, you should be fine. If it comes back to you, refund, but not before then."
That's where I think I am in the process...pretty common thread in the replies.
THANK YOU!

To be honest...
I just got out of the hospital and am, admittedly, a little on edge.
so I can acknowledge I should not have started yelling scam.
it just made me think of those people who you hear saying their account got hacked...

Thank you!
A grip has been gotten LOL
